Topic: FireFace400 Balanced signal

Hi all.

i have a technical question please.
ive checked the balanced output in all 6 (didnt chcked 7/8) outputs of the FF400 with my scope.
could it be that the Hot signal is stronger than the Cold signal?

regards,
Isak

Yes, that is normal and nothing to worry.

HI MC and thank you for your reply.

i was not worried at all.
i was a bit surprised to see it, that it smile

i know they suppose to be identical in perfect anti phase.

Re: FireFace400 Balanced signal

How are you measuring the signals?
If you are using the ground (sleeve or pin1) as a reference that may not be a valid method.

In balanced audio, the ground doesn't carry any signal or have any reference to 'hot' or 'cold', it just provides a drain for the shielding.

"An ideal balanced audio receiver is a differential amplifier. It works by measuring the difference between its two inputs, and calling that difference the signal. "Ground" is totally irrelevant."

The 'hot' and 'cold' should be identical, just inverted with respect to one another, that's the important measurement.

thank you for your reply.
in other RME sound cards not FF400 or 800, its ok, they are same with the GND test as i checked.

thank you for the link smile
