Topic: FF UFX - Temperatures with ADAT converter

Hi
i recently added a RME ADI 8 DS to my UFX via ADAT1 and i notice a big increasse of the temperature of the UFX after 1 hour + of usage (i can put my finger on the bottom of the unit and it`s short before hurting me). Before,  the unit does not nearly get as warm.

- the UFX sits in a 3 HE Rack
- The DS sits under the UFX with 1,5 cm free space for air circulation

Is this normal an the result of the higher workload with added ADAT converters?
Will the UFX get even more hot when i`ll add another converter via ADAT2 later?

Re: FF UFX - Temperatures with ADAT converter

You got me curios as i want to use 2 RME ADI 8 DS' the same way to an UFX ii for locaton recordings .... F

You might want a ventilated rack.

All gear emits heat. You need to provide some ventilation.

1,5 cm between devices is a good idea. But it doesn't do much if the heat can't go anywhere.

Small racks are usually problematic when it comes to cooling. Especially the plastic ones. Leaving the backside open often isn't enough.

RME is no different from other devices. Most of the energy consumed is given off as heat. A little bit is given off as electricty. That's the interesting part big_smile
