Topic: FF 800 DA section upgrade...Thoughts?

Hello, I have been using my FF 800 for the last 7 years. Drivers, routing and everything are all great. In fact FF800 in my opinion is one of the best interfaces ever made (because it nails lots of areas, maybe not perfect on all of them...)..

I am using FF800 mainly for mixing, some mastering and midi production. Therefore DA is extremely important for me. I use Amphion amp and speakers for monitoring (directly fed from cubase asio > FF800 > Amphion amplifier).

I have no experience with any high end DA converter for enough time to be able to tell the difference between them and FF800 DA. Would you guys think there is a considerable amount of room for improvement in terms of DA quality of FF800? My thought is to use either SPDIF or optical out into a 2 channel DA like Mytek, Lavry or similar (maybe something around 1000$ for only DA with no bells and whistles if possible).

What are your thoughts?

PS: I am aware of Blacklion mod for FF800 but a) I can't affor to  ship my unit to USA and wait for weeks (downtime) b) I would be more comfortable investing on a separate DA unit that I can use with any future audio interface I buy when I retire FF800

Get the ADI-2 Pro converter. It has reference quality you are looking for
and on top of that many very useful features.

On top of the sound you will get much more functionality compared to Mytec & Co.
This will give you no other product.

Look at the reviews on the left side of ADI-2 Pro's webpage, i.e.:
