Topic: 10-channel preamp AFTER FF802 used as MultiDAC - reference level

Dear all

I use my FF802 as 4-way XO stereo DAC plus double bass array.

Now I want to build a high class symetric preamp, that controls the volume analogue (10 channels). I can definme by myself, what input level the preamp shall use!

I found the thread below, and now my first question is: what output level of the FF is the best quality source for best sound?

Hi gain has 15 dB Head room, + 4dBU 9 dB and so on... what does this mean, as far as I understoood it, it is not SNR, is it the min / max digital level one can adjust with this output setting ??

Thx for help and explaining this to me!

best regards
Sigi

UFX manual (p.41):
The headroom of the Fireface UFX lies between 9 and 15 dB,
according to the chosen reference level:

Reference    0 dBFS @      Headroom
Hi Gain         +19 dBu       15 dB
+4 dBu         +13 dBu       9 dB
-10 dBV        +2 dBV         12 dB

The above levels are also found in all other RME devices. Therefore they are fully compatible to
each other.

The outputs 1 and 2 use XLR sockets. They additionally offer an output level of +24 dBu, making
these outputs compatible to SMPTE (+24 dBu @ 0 dBFS, +4 dBu with 20 dB headroom):
Reference      0 dBFS @      Headroom
+24 dBu        +24 dBu        20 dB
