Topic: Fireface UFX + ADI-8 DS Mk III: clock sync?
Hi
I've connected an ADI-8 Ds Mk III to my Fireface UFX via ADAT, running at 96kHz (DS).
Both devices are used primarily as A/D converters.
How should I set up the clock sources on both devices?

Hi

Clock master is best the device which is directly connected to the PC and gets the sample rate from the driver settings or the application like DAW ....
For the UFX to act as clock master you need to set clock to "internal" in the RME driver settings dialog.
For the ADI-8 you need to set clock to "ADAT" assumed that you connect UFX's ADAT OUT to ADI-8 ADAT IN.
Does that hold true even if I use the ADI-8 mostly to expand the A/D of the UFX, i.e. I use both devices primarily for A/D conversion/recording?
Would word clock bring any improvement over slaving to ADAT or would that be detrimental?
1. Yes.
2. Not at all. The DS MKIII has SteadyClock, therefore it works even with ADAT source at full clock performance.
