Topic: How Does MIDI Data Fed to the FF400 Impact It ?

Hi,

To cut to the chase, I need to understand if feeding MIDI data to the FF400 from a host may negatively impact it in any way. Would it steal processing cycles from the audio path/engine, would it cause the device to have an increased heat load, etc?

More specifically here's the scenario:  I am using Sonar as host, and when a MIDI device is removed from the system Sonar doesn't remember the remaining output devices by name, rather by position in the list.  I have removed a flaky MIDI card from the system so now all my Output assignments in Sonar are out of alignment.  I can fix this by selecting a FF400 MIDI channel simply to act as a placeholder so all the other MIDI outputs in Sonar map correctly like they used to.  But then MIDI data may, in some instances, be sent to the FF400 even though it serves no purpose.   Does this present any negative ramifications to the FF400 in terms of stealing processing cycles or increasing heat load, etc, or would it be benign?

Thanks,

    Sonic
