Topic: Trying to learn the pos/neg of setting the various channel levels...

TotalMix FX and the Fireface UFX control the audio/input in my computer system.

That is: Cubase Pro is my DAW, I have several pieces of kit running into the Fireface, sounds from my computer (such as from a browser, standalone music applications, etc.), any sound at all..

My questions are 1) Should the Main Volume Out in TotalMix FX be left at 0.0dbB? a) If so, why? b) If not, what might be the consequence of reducing this master level?

2) Given that the majority of computer applications automatically loud at full volume within the computers Volume Mixer, I'd like to avoid blowing my speaker monitors. If computer audio is running out of AN 1/2, that would mean setting the volume slider for AN 1/2 to roughly -25.0dB. Is there any downside to setting the levels for each channel, stereo or mono, in this fashion? a) Is this in fact the proper way of handling these settings?

Thanks in advance

Partial answer:

Do your monitors have a volume poti ? If yes trim the volume down there.
Otherwise see here: https://www.forum.rme-audio.de/viewtopic.php?id=25399

My speakers have potis and I trimmed them down as much as possible.
But its still loud ..

I personally feel "safe" up to -20dB
In my snapshot I start always with -30dB

Hi, thank you ramses. No, my monitors do not have a volume or input sensitivity setting. They are Focal SoloBe6. I’ll check out the post you referenced next..
