Topic: Fireface 400 won't remember flashed mixer settings after power off

Hey,

I have 2 Fireface 400s here which I am using in standalone mode at times.

I flashed the mixer state into both of them and I want the settings to stay. One of them remembers everything rock solid but the second one forgets some settings every time I turn it off and then back on.

Once I flash the mixer state, I can disconnect the computer and it works perfectly after that even when the comp is disconnected, but once I turn the unit itself off, I have to do it all over again on the next power on.

Does anyone know what the reason could be?

Thanks!

Re: Fireface 400 won't remember flashed mixer settings after power off

If you flashed the mixer state one after the other (not both units connected at the same time), made sure you flashed the clock settings as well, then either one is defective, or the mixer state is still there but changed for unclear reasons, like current submix changed, sample rate and with it the whole routing changed etc.

I am flashing the devices from different computers... so that rules out the first part of ur answer... a bit clear about what u mean in the latter part... but the changes I flashed have mostly remained accurate except for a few exceptions, namely the pan settings or channel pairing settings, which is making me loose 1 channel as the signal is getting phased & cancelled due to the wrong pan, It gets fixed automatically the moment I connect it to the host computer but then again the same thing after on/off

Re: Fireface 400 won't remember flashed mixer settings after power off

Pan problems etc can happen when you use features that are a (new) software function in TM FX, but not a hardware function within the unit. Especially stereo and mono channels come to mind. The FF400 was designed as seen in the old TotaMix, with fixed mono inputs and stereo outputs.

aaaaah, thank you very much, now finally that is a proper answer that I have been waiting for... I am sure that is it!!!

because as it happens the one that gives me the issue is the one im controlling from a new version of total mix where as the other one which works fine uses the old version of total mix from another computer, which I prefer anyway!!

super one dude, thanks again, I will report back with the findings, but I am sure this is the solution!

Re: Fireface 400 won't remember flashed mixer settings after power off

Tried it and it didn't work, still the exact same issue. I uninstalled the drivers and re installed an old version which works fine with my other one (3.06). Do I need to change the firmware on the device itself or something?

Let me know if u can think of any workaround... I just want to route all the analog ins to adat out and get them as individual channels on my other fireface, it works perfectly when connected to the host comp... then as I told u earlier, after restart, I loose one channel on each pairs of the input. I can see the light on the unit lighting up, so its getting it in stereo but giving me only one channel out of the adat.

Re: Fireface 400 won't remember flashed mixer settings after power off

furthermore its not only the adat outs that do this. I just tried the same thing but this time using analog outs. so I routed all the analog ins to the analog outs 1-2 and connected that to my other soundcard and again it worked perfectly so I flashed the mixer settings, but once I restarted the unit again without the computer, I lost one channel. I even tried panning all ins to center and flashing that but that didn't work either.

Check that they have the same firmware version and the latest one.

Re: Fireface 400 won't remember flashed mixer settings after power off

Just run the latest update tool, which will tell you whether the unit is up to date. It might also be visible in the settings window, but I'm not 100% sure right now...

Re: Fireface 400 won't remember flashed mixer settings after power off

Did you ever exchange the units between your systems? Then you quickly know if it's a hardware problem in one unit, or differences in driver/TotalMix causing this.

Re: Fireface 400 won't remember flashed mixer settings after power off

Hey, thanks for the reply.... I don't want to exchange units between both systems, and I have my own reasons for that... but this issue is pretty clear, it should work with the settings I flash onto it, as it works perfectly when connected to the computer, I have done everything needed with drivers and firmware so all that is ruled out... its a basic operation which should work simply, its not really that complicated... do let me know if you have any other ideas, I may try exchanging the units at some point, if I do I will report back.

Currently both units are running the same driver version and same firmware version, and the communication between the unit in question and the host computer is working perfectly. The only difference is the unit working properly is connected to a Windows XP system and the one having issues is connected to a OSX Snow Leopard system, is there any history of similar issues relating to OSX specifically?

Re: Fireface 400 won't remember flashed mixer settings after power off

To make my test more efficient it would be helpful if you send me a workspace of the state that you try to flash into the Mac's FF400.

Re: Fireface 400 won't remember flashed mixer settings after power off

Send me a workspace of the mixer state that you try to flash into the Mac's FF400. Means the configuration that does  not work when used stand-alone, saved as Workspace in TotalMix FX. So I can load this exact mixer state into my unit and reproduce the error.

Re: Fireface 400 won't remember flashed mixer settings after power off

When I download that I get a file without ending called 'Fireface 400 Standalone Config', that is not a TotalMix workspace file.

Both snapshot and workspace files are in XML format, means easily readable text files, not some unreadable garbage. Like this:

---------------------------
<Windows>
    <Frame0>
        <Window>
            <val e="WinPos.left" v="1312"/>
            <val e="WinPos.top" v="0"/>
            <val e="WinPos.right" v="2784"/>
            <val e="WinPos.bottom" v="878"/>
            <val e="ScaleType" v="2"/>
            <val e="FuncType" v="0"/>
        </Window>
        <Cache0>
            <val e="ScrollPosIn" v="0"/>
            <val e="ScrollPosPb" v="0"/>
Etc.

I saved it as a total mix preset... how do i save a config like the one u want? Bear in mind im using total mix version 1.71 and its not the new total mix fx... it looks like the old default version

what? u yourself told me in this thread that the issue could be that the total mix fx doesn't work perfectly in terms of volume and pan with older devices so I switched back to the old version.
