Topic: ADI-2 Pro vs Pro FS

It looks like the was an update to Adi-2 Pro and thomann has listed adi-2 Pro as discontinued product.

Turns out there is a new product on their page called Adi-2 Pro FS:

https://m.thomann.de/gb/rme_adi_2_pro_fs.htm

There is no information on RME’s website about this and from thomann description is not clear what other changes might be.

Can you please provide a list of changes to Adi-2 Pro and if it makes sense for current Adi-2 Pro owners to upgrade. Thanks.

Re: ADI-2 Pro vs Pro FS

I believe the only major change is Steadyclock FS: http://www.rme-audio.de/en/products/adi_2-dac.php#8
But there may be a few more small changes, not sure, to be honest.

You provided a link to Adi-2 DAC and I was referring to Adi-2 Pro FS - a silent hardware revision that was not mentioned by RME anywhere. Thanks.

He simply referred to the chapter about SteadyClock FS..

Re: ADI-2 Pro vs Pro FS

It should be no surprise and highly logical that with the ADI-2 DAC featuring SteadyClock FS we had to update our flagship converter, ADI-2 Pro, to have it as well. This required a modified PCB. Existing units can not be upgraded.

As we had to work on the PCB anyway we also added the AutoDark mode of the DAC, with one 'Pro' difference: the StandBy button stays lit when knobs, buttons and display are off.

I am surprised that Thomann treats this as totally new product, when there are only two smaller (minor) changes. For us it is a slightly updated ADI-2 Pro.

The latest firmware, 174/86, detects the Pro FS and flashes it. Well, indeed the units ship with that firmware.

The FS can be recognized by having 'ADI-2 Pro FS' printed on the front, else everything is absolutely the same.

The manuals are also identical except for the changes with SteadyClock FS and AutoDark:

Official release is on the Frankfurt Musikmesse, so I didn't tell anything wink

Planned obsolescence?
Danke.

The changes are almost non existent - try troll somewhere else.

Troll?
In digital audio, clock precision is all.
Different clock precision, different quality.

Re: ADI-2 Pro vs Pro FS

Definitely Troll, or you don't even know what obsolescense means. The Pro is fully functional, will get further firmware updates (the same as the Pro FS) and is in no way limited or no longer usable.

And if you continue to imply that we knew 3 years ago already that there will be a SteadyClock FS version, and that we will have to change the PCB for it, then I happily kick you out of this forum, as this is a personal insult and attack against me and the team.

Re: ADI-2 Pro vs Pro FS

Re: ADI-2 Pro vs Pro FS

Are the technical specifications in terms of THD+N and SNR on the analogue input the same with the Pro and Pro FS versions?

Yes.

If so, it’s weired since the ADI 2 DAC actually has a better THD+N (4dB) and linearity performance than the original ADI 2 Pro based on this review https://www.audiosciencereview.com/foru … -dac.2682/
I was hoping the new fs version should have exactly the same Dac performance with the Adi 2 Dac.
