Topic: Native DSD512 support for USB input

Hi Matthias

Is Native DSD512 (Linux) support planned for the USB input? Is it already being worked on?

The USB interface already supports 32bit/768kHz so Native DSD512 in terms of bandwidth ?

I am one of the many hoping DSD512 support comes, for use with HQPlayer

Re: Native DSD512 support for USB input

The used DA converter chip does not support DSD512. So no way to add it (nor did we ever mention somewhere that it will come or that we are working on it).

Thanks. What about Native DSD256 support on Linux? Is this planned and being worked on?

I know DoP256 is currently supported.

Hello MC?

Is Native DSD256 Linux support planned?

Many thanks

The unit runs Class Compliant under Linux. CC does not know a 'native' DSD mode AFAIK.

Re: Native DSD512 support for USB input

Not 100% sure, only googled quickly .. Does this information help ?

"In gerneral, Native DSD support is limited, so if your DAC supports DoP, this is the best way to listen to your DSD files at the moment. DoP is an old and mature protocol and has no audible differences when compared to Native DSD.

If you want to have a look at Linux kernel code and see the supported Native DSD devices, you can follow the link below:

https://github.com/torvalds/linux/blob/ … b/quirks.c

Please note that every Linux distro uses a different version of Linux kernel. In addition, if you use an embedded board like Raspberry Pi, Odroid, Udoo, you usually don’t use the mainline kernel and in many cases your version is very old"

Which makes me ask why we should waste our time with this (if that is on our side at all)? DoP works perfectly, as stated fully correctly...

Re: Native DSD512 support for USB input

as you may see on:
http://www.2l.no/hires/

DSD is made from PCM (DXD 355KHz/24Bit)
You can try samples on the site:
http://www.2l.no/hires/

My experience with ABX Test is , not distinguishable by ear 44.1KHz/16bit and 192, 355KHZ/24Bit.
If you doubt you may use 96kHz/24Bit, which is uppermost I recommend, only if recording is supergood.

Filesizes of DSD are ridicoulously high. DSD does inflate filesize while lowering quality, whats the point then with DSD?
example:
Original DXD 355kHZ/24Bit: 410MB
44.1kHz/16bit: 23MB
96kHz/24Bit: 90MB
DSD64: 210MB
DSD128: 420MB
DSD256: 840MB
DSD512: not avialalble!!

Studios go wih PCM, I understand why RME is focusing on PCM, its the highest quality.
PCM flac is the format to go.

Re: Native DSD512 support for USB input

Sorry, but you didn't get the point of this thread. It's about DoP (DSD encapsulated in a PCM stream) or Native DSD. Not about PCM.

Re: Native DSD512 support for USB input

my point is: DSD is actually not necesary at all.
No DSD,  avoid all issues with DSD

And that is not the topic of this thread.
