Topic: How to send stereo signals?

Hello,

Using UFX+ on Windows via USB here.
I connected my Mic to Mic9 input, but hearing my sound only from left.
Is there a way to hear from both? Also, when I try to use any conferencing software, all attendees hearing me from the left.
I don't want to use any mixer in my setup.

Regards.

Re: How to send stereo signals?

You can set all that in Total Mix.

Re: How to send stereo signals?

I try to tell it in a way that a friend of yours can support you.

Most likely you have Mic 9 and 10 still configured as stereo channel.
You need to configure these 2 channels in TotalMix FX as Mono channels.
In TotalMix FX "Top Row":
1. click to the "tool icon" of the Stereo channel "Analog 9/10"
This opens the channel settings.
You will see there an Orange Button "Stereo".
2. Click to the Stereo Button
This will split the Stereo Channel into 2 Mono Channels.

From there on you will hear Input from the mono channels Mic9 and Mic10 on left and right output channel.

Don't forget to save this into your snapshot and workplace.

Good luck implementing it and have fun using it cankirca.

Dear Ramses,

Glad to see you again!

Let me clarify it please.

I only want to use 1 mic channel at the same time, like 9.
If I use my UFX+ in Skype, Teamspeek, TeamTalk etc. they only hear me voice from the left, not in center.
All of my friends who are using focusrite or other cards, they are connecting/using their microphones without problem.
When we decide to make a conference for education and/or other purpose, I can't use my RME!

Thanks for your answer again!

Re: How to send stereo signals?

Sorry, but I explained to you already the most likely root cause in my previous post.

Change channel 9/10 in TotalMix to become mono channels, thats all.

I explained in detail how to perform this so that a friend of yours can support you.

Re: How to send stereo signals?

Changing this in TM FX doesn't help. Skype and others see only one input channel, because the mic is connected to only one input channel of the stereo WDM device. As the WDM driver does not offer mono channels one has to either use workarounds (like split on two inputs, Loopback etc), or change a setting in the software, if that is possible.

Re: How to send stereo signals?

Strange, I tried it out, but only looked at the level meter inside of the windows sound driver.
Maybe I should have tested with a real application.

Dear MC,

Could you give detailed steps for workarounds that you wrote to solv my issue please? `(like split on two inputs, Loopback etc)`
Also, is it hard to add mono support to WDM with an update?
Others using their cards stereo and/or mono without problem.

Re: How to send stereo signals?

I checked a bit and am even more confused where the problem is - I see none. Testing Skype (7.33.0.105, not the latest one) there simply is no stereo input, so it is not possible to be 'one sided'.

Also Skype uses both channels of a stereo input (here mic channels 9/10) and mixes them to mono automatically.

For your own monitoring the hints of Ramses are valid: to hear yourself on both channels you need to change the inputs to Mono and set Panorama to center.

Re: How to send stereo signals?

Hello MC,

First of all, thanks a lot for this detailed information.

I will try them today and let you know.

Let me ask an important question: is it possible to change Panorama value with OSC?
I can choose mono/stereo checkboxes for all channels with OSC, but not sure for Panorama setting that you mentioned.
Due to accessibility problems on TotalMix, I'm duing all tasks with OSC.

Re: How to send stereo signals?

Please note  I had to edit my post above.

Pan is (of course) part of OSC support.

Re: How to send stereo signals?

Hi MC,

Ok, will try above.

Why you removed information from your post to change channel settings on Windows?
Is there any problem on these steps?

Regards.

Re: How to send stereo signals?

These don't exist in the MADIface USB series driver.

Re: How to send stereo signals?

Ok, do you recommend me to buy a Thunderbold cable for my unit?
I'm working on Windows 10.
Using mono channel is really important for my workflow.
Is there a way to find an other way?

Re: How to send stereo signals?

Why are you looking for solutions when the basic problem is still unclear? Why is mono channels so important, and which software uses mono channels so that a one-side problem appears? My Skype doesn't. TotalMix has no such problem either.

Re: How to send stereo signals?

Dear MC,

Skype does not have good audio quality.

We are using an other solution called TeamTalk from www.bearware.dk

It supports 32KBPS to 512KBPS audio quality and more options for audio and video conferencing.
And this application is %100 accessible with screen readers.
We are using it for remote education.

Unfortunately I can choose only 1 input at a time for microphone.

So this is the reason for my issue.

Thanks again.

Re: How to send stereo signals?

TeamTalk v. 5.3.2. Menu Client - Preferences, or F4. Tab Sound System. In 'Sound System Settings' choose 'Direct Sound'. Then select the 'Analog Input 9/10' from your UFX for 'Input device'. If you do so both channels 9/10 are mixed to mono and send out as dual mono (stereo) signal.

Re: How to send stereo signals?

Dear Matthias,

I don't totally understand your last message, but when I check Control panel\Sound\recording\preferences\advanced tab, I saw that there is '1 channel, 44.1KHZ' option.
I selected it and yup, problem has been fixed!
Now I can use TeamTalk without problem with both channels.

Thanks for all replys , you can stick this informative topic to forum I think.

Regards.

Re: How to send stereo signals?

That option might not be sticky and also vanish with the next driver release. It is better to set this up in TeamTalk correctly.

Re: How to send stereo signals?

Hello again,

As I understand from your message, maybe you're using next release now and it is not available in your machine :-)

Your method is not working here, shall we look at that together?
When I choose direct sound and 9/10, it is sending only from left.
I changed many many settings via OSC from TotalMix but nothing happened.
Although my workaround is working, but your response scared me. Could you help me settle permanently please?

Best.

MC, are you there?

Re: How to send stereo signals?

Hi Daniel,

Glad you see you on this topic.

Which time do you available?
I'm on the work now, but how can I talk with you?
Could you read the rest of the topic? Maybe you can find an other solution.

Regards.
