Topic: Comparable Performance Between Babyface Pro & HDSPe AIO at 64 Samples?

I currently have an HDSPe in one PC and a Fireface UC hooked up to another.

I was pretty noobish (still am really) when I took the dive into RME interfaces and didn't realize some interfaces have FX. I was thinking of swapping the UC out for a UCX but then got thinking that maybe I should just replace the HDSPe instead. I originally purchased the HDSPe thinking I'd gain significant ground in terms of latency only to find that USB 2.0 was less of a limiting factor than the company making the interface / drivers & software. Also, as things currently stand I have some latency when recording microphones in a DAW with ASIO as I have to first route the mic through the UC into the HDSPe and loopback.

With a Babyface pro I can plug a mic into the interface directly connected to the PC running my DAW and reap the benefits of FX in totalmix. Assuming I can apply FX on the Babyface and route it to the UC with FX still applied if I want? I really want the FX for live recordings outside of my DAW using FFMpeg and some voice chat software on the PC hooked up to the UC.

I'm pretty sure everything I want is possible, I'm just a bit worried about raw performance, can the USB on the Babyface really perform just as well as the HDSPe over PCIe at 64 samples?

Just found out the Babyface Pro doesn't support all FX... guess I will have to go with the UCX.

Still thinking I'll replace the HDSPe, assuming it runs as well as the UC I already know how it will perform.

And if you would take the UFX II, which uses the MADIface driver, then you will be able to use ASIO buffersizes down to 32 samples and you will get Durec by this.

I wrote this comparison chart of interfaces: https://www.tonstudio-forum.de/index.ph … 18-08-pdf/
It covers also the topics, whether the FX chip is implemented and whether its a full implementation or not.
Also covered the ASIO driver and ASIO buffersizes of the driver at 44.1/48 kHz sample frequency.

Here an overview of RTT times between recording interface and cubase.
It also covers the use case if you use i.e. a RayDAT (fully digital card) and an UFX connected in front of it.

Here and overview that I wrote about the UFX+. The UFX II is the same, simply without MADI, USB3/TB.
