Topic: FireFace UCX: How to route app#2 audio to outputs->inputs -> app#1?

Hi, I'm attempting to get rid of using SoundFlower / Source:Nexus type virtual audio cable apps, and instead use FireFace UCX in such a way that Pure Data will send to outputs 15-16-17 and 18, and those will directly become inputs 15-16-17-18 (which I can then use Ableton Live to receive and record).

How would I go about doing this, without dying of feedback, or having to plug a physical cable from the outputs to the inputs?

Note: I don't necessarily need them to be outputs & inputs 15-18, but would prefer to have at least 4 mono outputs going into 4 mono inputs.

I come from using RME Multiface PCMCIA so I'm really confused by this brand new UCX Mixer and TotalMix thing - I don't really know how to operate these and I worry I'll go deaf on feedback.

Pls halp?

On each output channel (bottom row) you can switch on Loopback. That's all there is to it!

Thanks Jeff!

Looking at this video, I now have Renoise sending to SPDIF. SPDIF has Loopback enabled. I am seeing SPDIF Input getting audio.

I can set Ableton Live to receive audio from SPDIF. However, SPDIF monitoring (to headphones) seems to also be on. I'm not entirely sure how to make sure that the loopback inputs are not going into my headphones, but instead only to Ableton Live (I monitor through Ableton Live, so if I have both SPDIF monitoring and Ableton Live monitoring going on, there'll be phase issues).

How would I now go about muting SPDIF Input so that I don't hear it, but can hear it with the software.

TM FX
Ensure to be in "submix mode"
Bottom Row - HW Outputs - click to the Phones output and check this submix. Every HW Output is a submix of its own.
Observe the fader positions / Input and Output signals of:
- Top Row - HW inputs - AES, coming directly from AES input of recording interface
- Middle Row - SW Playback Channels - AES, coming from DAW (or OS/Applications), if not being routed otherwise within DAW

In regards to TM FX ...

I wrote a little blog article how to use TM FX, maybe it helps you: https://www.tonstudio-forum.de/blog/ind … rnal-equi/

Hmm.. I don't have TotalMix FX, just regular TotalMix, I think. I will read the blogpost and the RME videos, so thanks for those! I hope the TM FX advice will be applicable to regular non-FM TM.

I think I'll have better luck tonight smile

The product name changed to TM FX after a facelift of the software since over 2+y I think.
No matter whether the device has a FX chip or not.

Much appreciated! Got two apps sending audio to a third app - was able to ditch Soundflower + Source:Nexus. What a wonderful soundcard! Hardly any latency either, and the sound doesn't get "screwed over" (something always happens to the sound when patching through Soundflower/Source:Nexus, like it's not somehow as good coming out of the app than being received by another app.
