Topic: Loopback and assigning channel number

Hi

with a fireface UFX I want to do the following.

Need to record a micro, have chosen: Input9

Now the recording softwar requires a signal on Input1

I need therefore to route Input9 to Input1.

Ideas was to use Loopback, however assiging an arbitrary number did not work.

I did the following:

Mic on Input9
Route to Output15 (ADAT)
enabled Loopback on Output15
Get signal on Input15

But I require signal on Input1.

Now how to assign Loopback of Output15 to Input1?

Re: Loopback and assigning channel number

Theoretically you need to route Input 9 to Output 1 and then press looback on output 1 to see signal on input 1.
Eventually try to make analog 1/2 also mono if stereo is not working.

Does this SW use ASIO or WDM ?

Re: Loopback and assigning channel number

the software is acourate (measurementsoftware, www.audiovero.de). The software uses ASIO.

Okay, yes its a problem in my setup to route to  Output1 because Output1 is already used for another signal. Thats the reason I want to route to Output15 or another ADAT output as they are not used. All Outputs with anlog interfaces are occupied: Analog 1...12

If I route to OutputX, then Loopback the signal appears on InputX. That works well.
But how to assign OutputX, do Loopback on OutputX and send the signal to InputY?

Re: Loopback and assigning channel number

I fear for this purpose you need to take a physical cable.
Route to an unused HW output Y and plug into HW input Analog 1.

Re: Loopback and assigning channel number

okay , may well be...

In that case I better free up Output1 then. Loopback is a so elegant solution.

May be this could be a new feature, to select the loopback channel number

Re: Loopback and assigning channel number

Many people talk about "any to any routing".
Its in fact more "any HW input / SW playback channel" to any output (submix).
And if you want to record a submix -> loopback.

I like your idea, it would enhance flexibility if the application is not so flexible.

But I am not sure whether it maybe could create issues
- to implement this in TM FX
- whether many ppl require smth like this so that its worth the effort
- that people have operational difficulties with it, as many have already issues with TM FX submix oriented routing

Re: Loopback and assigning channel number

yes indeed its a bit involved. In the manual the explanation is very short and not so clear in detail how it works.

Obviously a fixed channel is assigned currently, the same number of the output as input.  May be this is easy to make choseable.

I guess a lot of people could use Loopback, however they do not know. This is a nuque feature of RME. May be RME should promote it.

Yes its a bit difficult to understand at first. A better manual on this tpic could help, some examples as well (in the manual or in an app-note).
