Re: I bought a consumer DAC for my Babyface and I can't seem to make it go

Very terse description ...

This device ?
https://www.amazon.de/Konverter-Audio-C … B06XTHNY9S

What you want to achieve ? How is the cabling and signal flow ?
You are aware of, that this device can only convert from digital to analog, not the other direction (from its description) ?

What do you mean by "When I press optical out" ? There is no button to press on this device.

Check cabling:
- Are you sure you use the correct port ADAT OUT on the Babyface ?
- Do you see red light coming out on the other end of the ADAT cable which you plug to the DAC?
- Try eventually other TOSLINK cable.

Check proper format:
You ensured in the RME driver settings menue, that the Babyface sends optical SPDIF and not ADAT ?
Optical -> SPDIF ?!

Check Audio Routing:
Do you route Audio in TotalMix to the 1st two ADAT channels AS 1+2 ?

Re: I bought a consumer DAC for my Babyface and I can't seem to make it go

I have the same problem.
I have bought a DAC like that, just a Fiio DAC.

I have a Topping TP60 amp.

I use a new optical cable from my (old) Babyface optical output to the Fiio DAC optical input. I use new a phono cable(s) from the DAC to the amp. Input is set correct on the amp and there is light in the optical cable.

My music player is Winamp with ASIO output plugin.

So it must be a routing problem, right? I'm not sure that Babyface sends optical SPDIF signal. How do i check that?

I told you already .. check in RME driver settings dialog ... see also handbook.

In terms of routing:

Ensure in TM FX
- to be in submix mode
- click to the HW output (bottom row) for the optical SPDIF out
Then observe the settings of fader in the SW playback channels (middle row).
You see where the music is being displayed, ensure that the fader is set to 0dB.

Routing is even more easier to be checked if you press the "Sub" button right under "Layout Presets".
Then only the HW Inputs and SW Playback channels are being displayed, that are in use for your submix (SPDIF out).

In terms of routing:
- check handbook and these resources

Re: I bought a consumer DAC for my Babyface and I can't seem to make it go

Thanks for your reply.

The old Babyface doesn't have the option of Layout Presets panel.

"click to the HW output (bottom row) for the optical SPDIF out"
Sorry, but could you make a screenshot of that - can't find it. Maybe due to different versions of TM. I have the for old TM 1.50. It can't find the settings of the fader either..

Why it is so complicated is a puzzle to me, it's damn frustrating. But thanks for the patience.

Here are some screenshots of my config. Maybe it helps.

The RME driver settings you do not find in the TotalMix  Window. Handbook Page 14, chapter 8 .. shows / explains it and even has a screenshot, maybe you should take some time and simply read it.
