Topic: Win 7 ENG / 64 Bit & Sonnet 4 x FL1100 USB3 issue

I am experimenting heavy issues using ADI 2 Pro using latest FW & RME Driver. Also using the latest Frisco Logic driver given from the Frisco homepage. Funny is that issues using Win 10 do not exists.

While using for Win 7 & Win 10 the same main board Gigabyte Ex58 HW while booting from different Win OS HD's.

Issue on Win 7:

1. Play using ASIO = Output is pumping with repeated drop outs.

2. Changed from ASIO to WASAPI and totally blocked the PC! Means mouse movement dead and a manual HW power off/on was required

3. Also using Windows Play & test showed up no signal at all

4. Rebooted and ADI 2 pro connected: Tray icon did not came up!

5. Using a ordinary USB 2.0 port on this main board worked as expected.

Current do not know whether it's a Frisco FL1100 driver issue or the Frisco & RME combination.

Re: Win 7 ENG / 64 Bit & Sonnet 4 x FL1100 USB3 issue

Which driver version are you using under Windows 7 ?

I am using this driver since nearly 2 years under Win7 without any issues: FLUSB3.0-3.6.9.0a

You can't get it from here anymore: https://support.frescologic.com/portal/ … st-drivers
But if you want to give it a try, you can get it from my dropbox, then pls send me an e-mail via forum mailer.

Which mainboard do you have exactly ? Pls link to the product and the manual.
Which PCIe sockets are in use and by what ?

Maybe there is a conflict which only pops up either with the FL driver version that you use under Win7.
Or maybe also in combination with Win7 and the PCIe sockets that you use, if the lanes are shared
or something in that range .. no more concrete idea at the moment.

Re: Win 7 ENG / 64 Bit & Sonnet 4 x FL1100 USB3 issue

While have Gigabyte GA-EX58-UD5, Sonnet is connected on x4, means not shared with the x16 Switch.

Current driver is FLUSB3.0-3.8.34556.0.

Will send you an e-mail for later driver release..

Re: Win 7 ENG / 64 Bit & Sonnet 4 x FL1100 USB3 issue

Well,

the FLUSB3.0-3.6.9.0a did not help in any way, only to get a BSOD.

Within the dump the related .sys file seams to be the culprit.

Also MS update showed me a newer HW driver release as FLUSB3.0-3.8.33709.0, but failed to install!

Finally used now this FLUSB3.0-3.8.33709.0 and without any success. The latest FLUSB3.0-3.8.34556.0 was no success too.

Hopefully Frisco or MS pushes some bug fixing on Win 7.

Re: Win 7 ENG / 64 Bit & Sonnet 4 x FL1100 USB3 issue

Could also be HW related (your mainboard), I never experienced any bluescreen with my machine.

No, while runs on Win 10 using equal =" same same" HW only booted with different boot hard disk mades this so special big_smile

Re: Win 7 ENG / 64 Bit & Sonnet 4 x FL1100 USB3 issue

Well,

1. Changed the PCIe slot from 8- Lanes to the last none switched PCIe 16 Lanes connector

2. Win 10 OK, Win 7 NOK

3. connected the BF on Win 7 Pro & Frisco: Worked as expected as a snap

4. This means, it's ADI 2 Pro driver related issue on Win 7

Who knows whats all different in Win10 .. it could even be that they workaround some issues successfully in 10, but not in Windows 7 because Microsoft has no interest to backport too many good things to it. Everything is possible.

Hmm, tbh, I don't understand the logic / rationale behind your argumentation.

If point 3. works then you have a solution, very nice.

Everything else from you is pure speculation.
You should also be aware of that a pure HW driver and an ASIO driver are different things.

I think there is something wrong in your system.
Either bad Win7 installation or bad drivers that interfere or a bad mainboard design, where the issues only become visible in Windows 7 because the two OS simply differ in the programming.

I see no indication, that this has something to do with the RME drivers.

FL1100 Chipset is well tested by RME and I can confirm that the card and the drivers are rock stable.
On my system everything works very reliable even with "monster projects" which suck a lot of CPU power.
https://www.tonstudio-forum.de/blog/ind … cks-de-en/

So if you say that you have issues on your system with the Sonnet driver which I gave to you,
which works here reliable since 2+ years, then its surely not the RME ASIO driver which is causing issues.

I have 2 (!) UFX+ and an ADI-2 Pro FS connected to the FL1100 card on my Win7 system
additionally I have a RayDAT build in and I never had any issues.

Re: Win 7 ENG / 64 Bit & Sonnet 4 x FL1100 USB3 issue

Well,

did some new tests using Win 7 & Frisco Logic FL1100 and the result is against any clear/valid statements made by Ramses as the Win 7 has a problem. roll

New result is based on function tests, without knowing in deeper details about internal system/driver behavior while currently no internal sub system trace information known or given to retrieve.

the ADI 2 Pro is only working if I set it to MULTI CHANNEL Mode! In Stereo Mode I get the culprit!!! lol lol

Re: Win 7 ENG / 64 Bit & Sonnet 4 x FL1100 USB3 issue

Same effect for me in the mentioned combination "CC-Mode Stereo" and "FL1100"
If I use Multichannel mode no issues.

The stuttering of sound is in a way ~0.1s music, ~1s silence, 0.1s music, 1s silence and so on.

When plugging ADI-2 Pro FS from Sonnet card with FL1100 chip to USB3 port from Chipset (Supermicro X10SRi-F, C610)
in Stereo operation mode, then I have no issues with music playback using MusicBee and its ASIO driver.

I made sure that ADI-2 Pro FS is not connected anymore to the UFX+, so its only connection is from USB.
Operation mode is USB.

Windows 7 Pro 64bit SP1
Supermicro X10SRi-F
Sonnet Allegro Pro
Sonnet Driver: FLUSB3.0-3.6.9.0a
ADI-2 Pro FS BE, Firmware: v90

MADIface Driver v0.9680
ASIO Buffer Size: 128
MusicBee 3.3.6904 and Foobar 1.4.1b5
MADIface driver in use

Testing later with latest Sonnet Driver, whether it makes a difference.
Otherwise the ADI-2 Pro seems to have an issue with FL1100 when being used in stereo mode only.

EDIT: with latest FL drivers FLUSB3.0-3.8.34556.0 same issue only the error is slightly different.
Instant distortion but no interruptions when ADI-2 Pro FS is operated in Stereo Mode.
No issues when using Multichannel mode.

No USB transport errors to be seen in driver settings dialog.

Mira mira. big_smile

Does the play test within control panel / sound / property / advanced & test play worked for you?

While this did not worked in stereo mode add all.

Also the tray icon & setup did not started in case on a reboot and device connected & switched on in stereo mode.

Did also blocked the BF setup..

Re: Win 7 ENG / 64 Bit & Sonnet 4 x FL1100 USB3 issue

There is an easy workaround. Simply use multichannel mode.

Ok, didn't know or remember that you use this content.
Ok, the next idea for a workaround is to use USB ports from the chipset.

Re: Win 7 ENG / 64 Bit & Sonnet 4 x FL1100 USB3 issue

Hmmm

Would use 2 pro with mainboard usb??

Thats why the suggested 4x Frisco was purchasd to get the required USB power for each channel.

Still waiting from RME support on this matter and may retreaving internal debug messages why

. Data flow interrupted

. WASAPI NOT working on sound control panel

. Often also tray setup does not come up

All this on Win 7 64 bit

Hp

Re: Win 7 ENG / 64 Bit & Sonnet 4 x FL1100 USB3 issue

Come on wink It's Xmas, vacation etc ... give RME some time. I meant this also as workaround.
Why should chipset USB not handle it ?
The FL1100 usually works very well, but if not in this case then you need to look for an alternative for the time being.

Re: Win 7 ENG / 64 Bit & Sonnet 4 x FL1100 USB3 issue

Well,

any chance to validate same behavior using a RME ADI-2 DAC?

BTW: IMHO it looks like as a problem mapping Win32 buffer data to a 64bit driver and passing it over USB... just a 2 cents guess big_smile

Re: Win 7 ENG / 64 Bit & Sonnet 4 x FL1100 USB3 issue

Well,

my final findings is the following: Frisco and/or RME culprit

As soon Frisco drivers are involved Win 7 or Win 8 using the ADI-2 Pro in Stereo mode, sample data are in a repeated manner partially muted as zero data values.

Keep in mind on Win 7: MS Web driver update provides driver too! Those are really Frisco drivers with Frisco issue as mentioned above.

What really works are real MS drivers only given on Win 8 & Win 10.

Re: Win 7 ENG / 64 Bit & Sonnet 4 x FL1100 USB3 issue

Update:

As soon Frisco drivers (as latest 3.8.33709.0 & Win 7 Driver Web update) are involved Win 7 or Win 8 or Win 10 using the ADI-2 Pro in Stereo mode, sample data are in a repeated manner partially muted as zero data values.

Keep in mind that Frisco Drivers may not detect ADI-2 Pro (on Win 7 reboot) or OPPO 205 USB-PNP.

If one interested and getting into new Win 7 updates..

Tested the new given driver from Windows update 19.03.2019 as 3.8.35514.0 (equal version given from Frisco driver site).

Same issue as Stereo mode with drop outs.
