Topic: Has XLR connection higher quality than SPDIF ?

Hi, my FireFace UCX has SPDIF and I want to connect an other Brand device which has besides XLR also SPDIF, so I use the RME to connect my other device with my iMac.
Can I use UCX SPDIF without losing any kind of quality?
Because I heard that SPDIF compress a little the signal comparing to XLR !

No spdif is digital and 100% lossless, so equal or better then XLR analogue. But if you tell us which device we can advice better of course.

Hi, i have problems (recording distortions) using my Firewire connection to iMac via Thunderbolt2 lately, ... so I want to use RME SPDIF via USB to see if my problems will be solved !
