Topic: Feature Request: Show Volume of Main Out in Taskbar or small Window

Hi!

I am using TotalMix with ARC USB. It would be very useful to see the volume of Main Out without opening the TotalMix-Window, perhaps in a tray-Icon that shows the value or a small Window on the Desktop. I use a static Routing in TotalMix. I don't have to make some changes very often. That's why it ist mostly minimized. When I record some Vocals, the Main Out volume is high. When I playback a commercial, volume should be low. Once I forgot to check the volume of Main Out and started a commercial. That was really loud. Because of that I always have to open TotalMix before I start a playback or a Recording. Worklflow could be better, when I could check the value of Main Out directly in a tray.
Perhaps this is interesting for other users too?

Thanks for your interest.

Greetings

Joerg

1st of all maybe turn the potis of your monitors down, that 0dB do not hurt.

Use also this information, how to get rid of too high level mismatches:
https://www.forum.rme-audio.de/viewtopic.php?id=25399

You could also set a proper output level in each of your snapshots so that selecting a Snapshot for a certain purpose always starts with a defined volume that you can change easily or by re-selecting the Snapshot on the ARC USB.
Ensure for this to have these settings in TM FX Preferences (F2):

A) TM FX -> Preferences -> Snapshots
Do not load "--"
This is required to load the volume together with a snapshot

A) TM FX -> Preferences -> Device Handling:
(X) Always init DSP devices with TotalMix FX settings

Re: Feature Request: Show Volume of Main Out in Taskbar or small Window

Hi Joerg,

Did you try out the RME Digicheck (https://www.rme-audio.de/downloads/driver/digicheck.php) tool? This however displays only the levels not the volume – in other words the current level of your audio and not the position of the fader.

If that's what you're after, this might work perfectly. If you want to see the current volume it is actually displayed as a number on the Fireface if you select the right output with the encoder. You could also read out the current volume via OSC and use any programming language that has a working OSC library to display the values.

Thank you guys for your fast reply.
@forelle: Programming something like that, would be a solution. My hope was, that other users would like such a feature and RME decides to implement it in the next version:-) Digicheck doesn't work in this case I think.
@ramses: Thanks. There are several workarounds that work for me too. I was very impressed of Totalmix. I bought my Fireface 4 weeks ago. I like all the cool ideas and useful options. The best monitoring tool on the market! A volume tray Icon could perhaps be an additional improvement. When I am the only one who finds this useful, it's ok for me:-)

Re: Feature Request: Show Volume of Main Out in Taskbar or small Window

Don't get me wrong, I am not against it, but it should be configurable in Preferences whether to activate or deactivate it.

If you would have an UFX, UFX II or UFX+, then the main volume and HW output information would be shown on the display of your unit.

Re: Feature Request: Show Volume of Main Out in Taskbar or small Window

I'd like to revive this request. Also trying to use the ARC as my main monitor controler, and some sort of volume indicator would be great. Perhaps a simple number read out in the menu bar? No need for floating windows .Thanks!

Re: Feature Request: Show Volume of Main Out in Taskbar or small Window

Addendum; I use the ARC with a RME HDSPe AES card, so now volume read out on an external interface possible for me

Re: Feature Request: Show Volume of Main Out in Taskbar or small Window

I'd like to revive this request as well.  I know there are MacOS solutions like ControlPilot.  And then there software called TotalMix Volume Control by fgimian on GitHub.  But a native software heads-up-display that fades away (like ControlPilot) would be wonderful (for both Mac and Windows).  I'm sure this would be a fairly simple programming addition for the experts at RME.

Anyway, thanks for making such wonderfully reliable hardware and software.  We all appreciate it every time we use RME gear!

Hi there.  Apologies for the spruik, but you may want to check out my widget Nix here https://bsound.co.nz/tools-nix.  It can give you a heads-up display for the main volume, or two different outputs, plus adds some hotkeys.

It's US$ 5, but can be tested as a demo for one hour at a time.

cheers

Nix:
I have it, it is simple, easy and does its job. Great addition.
