I recenlty got a new RME 802. It's a bit hassle to learn, but I'm for sure willing! I only can't find anywhere how to route my Mic to a different hardware compressor. So

What is the best way to do this?
I run all of my mics and outboard hardware into rear Inputs 1-8 on a FF 802. A typical signal path looks like this:
Mic > preamp > compressor > 802 rear Input 1 > DAW.
If I want to introduce compression into the signal path after the signal has reached the 802, whether it enters through rear Inputs 1-8 or by connecting a mic to the XLR Inputs 9-12, then I would just use the compression in TM FX by applying it to the Input channel on the 802. Looks like this:
Mic > Input 9 (TM FX comp/EQ engaged) > DAW.
That may not be what you want to do, but I'm a little unclear why you would want to run the signal into the 802, then out for processing, then back in again on its way to your DAW. (Maybe there are good reasons for doing this. I try to keep things simple.) Generally, I would only apply outboard compression to the signal upstream from the Inputs on the 802, or use the compression in TM FX at the 802's inputs.
