Topic: FFF400 as adat 8 channel preamp ?

Hi, trying to use my FF400 AS A COMPLEMENT 8 CHANNELS PRE FOR UFX,
I have issues with TotalMix fx using my ufx as master.

ufx adat 1 is hooked up with presonus digimax fs, via toslink. No problem. TotalMix Fx on ufx see 1 to 8 adat channel of the digimax. I.e. the 8 input signals on the digimax are Visible on UFX ‘S TOTALMIX FX

Ufx adat 2 is hooked up with ff400, setup in the fire face panel with “professional” option (optical no working).

Pb :

Only the first 2 combo input on the ff400 work; I.e. when I plug a mic Or an instrument in ff400 ‘s input 1 or 2, TotalMix fx on UFX see them independently (vu level is present).

BUT ;

When I plug an instrument in ff400 ‘s channel 3 to 8 input channels, the signals always appear on one SAME UFX TotalMix’s INPUT, adat 9 if I I am not wrong. I.e. if I plug an instrument in FF400 INPUT 4 FOR EXAMPLE, THE SIGNAL ALWAYS APPEAR ON UFX TOTALMIX HARWARE INPUT “adat 9”.

Ps : all clock are sync vis world clock as appeared in fire face panel, with ufx as master.
All clocks are set to 44.1

Any help ?
Best regards.

Re: FFF400 as adat 8 channel preamp ?

Just want to add that in Logic Pro X with aggregated drivers (ufx+ff400) everything works like a charm !
I.e. I got signals from all 16 adat channel (1-8: digimax fs - 9-16: ff400)

But not the case in TotalMix fx on UFX...

ANY Suggestions,
Thanks !

Re: FFF400 as adat 8 channel preamp ?

The fireface must be routed correctly in the totalmix pane for the fireface.. input 1 and 2 are correct. In submix mode click on output (submix) 3/4 and see what is routed to that output in the top and middle lane. Make sure it is only input 3 and 4 as a stereo pair that are up to 0 db.
repeat for 5/6 and 7/8.
Hope this helps!

just tried but the issue is whatever i do all signals in the FF400 (except input 1 and 2 are correctly routed to UFX totalmix), are touted to UFX adat 9!
SEee attached TOTALMIX matrix and normal views. pics.

BUT
i repeat in LOGIC pro X routings are correct ...

Re: FFF400 as adat 8 channel preamp ?

In the TM FX "FF400" instance:
- make sure to have submix mode enabled, if not yet done
- click to HW Output "ADAT 3/4" and raise the correct fader of "HW inputs" (top row) which you want to hear
this signal you will see on the UFX (if plugged to 2nd ADAT port) as HW input ADAT 11/12 (top row)
- click to HW Output "ADAT 5/6" and raise the correct fader of "HW inputs" (top row) which you want to hear
this signal you will see on the UFX (if plugged to 2nd ADAT port) as HW input ADAT 13/14 (top row)
- click to HW Output "ADAT 7/8" and raise the correct fader of "HW inputs" (top row) which you want to hear
this signal you will see on the UFX (if plugged to 2nd ADAT port) as HW input ADAT 15/16 (top row)

In the TM FX "UFX" instance you need to look whether you want to route those signals coming from HW Input ADAT 9-16 (from FF400)  to phones, monitors or whether you simply want to record them in Logic

Remember: HW inputs (top row) are always being passed by TM FX to the application (DAW).

If you want to route these signals to i.e. phones output AN 9/10 OUT.
In the TM FX "UFX" instance:
- make sure to have submix mode enabled, if not yet done
- click to the submix "HW Output AN9/10" (bottom row)
- Raise the Faders of HW input ADAT 9..15 as you like/need for your phones submix

Thats all.

Maybe my TM FX primer further supports you in terms of setup and routing:

Or the very good RME Tutorial videos:

The manual also contains some useful instructions about TM FX.
