Topic: Babyface 1st generation input problem

Hi,

After many years, my trustworthy Babyface 1st gen is starting to give me some problems. I have very strange issue, which i can't really logically explain, so i am asking you guys, if anyone have any idea or suggestion.

The problem is, that input 1 is NOT working with any dynamic microphone anymore.

But on the other hand, input is working normal with condenser mics (48V engaged) and also with signal from my Kemper (balanced).

Only if i use dynamic mic, there is almost no signal present - for example, if i turn input gain to the max (+60), there is noisefloor at cca. -60 db and almost no sign of microphone activity, regardless of what i am doing with a mic (tapping, screaming etc.).

Note: the same dynamic mic and cable work flawlessly with input 2.

Problem appeared suddenly and i am almost sure something in the Babyface is not working anymore. But the fact that input is working normally with Kemper signal, regardless of Kemper output level, is pretty confusing.

Thx in advance for your help!!!

Re: Babyface 1st generation input problem

1. Broken breakout cable.
2. Missing ground contact at the D-sub connector. Needs to either fasten the two screws, or disassembling the device to clean the metal contact between housing and D-sub.
3. Something else in electronics.

The unit should be sent in for checking and service.

There was actually a problem in breakout cable. One of the wires inside input 1 XLR was disconnected.

Thx for your help!
