Topic: Fireface 400 with legacy drivers sluggish and slow

Hi!

I am using a  PCI-E card (Sonnet Allegro Express FW400) to connect my Fireface to my system. I always had to use the legacy drivers (1394 OHCI Compilant Host Controller) for my card, or otherwise I would get the BSOD.

Now I have updated to WIN 1903 and since then, the FF settings and  Cubase altogether are totally slow. I literally takes 2 seconds to change tabs in the FF settings. I can't play any of my music without dropouts and stuttering.

So I tried the non-legacy driver: Everything worked fine again, until there was another BSOD and then another one....

What can I do? Get another FW PCI card? Sonnet is usually a very reliable company...

Here are my specs:
Win 1903
64GB Ram
Gigabyte Z370 HD3-CF (U3E1) Motherboard
Intel Core i7-8700K CPU @ 3.70GHz

Please help! I rely on my machine!

Thanks,
Matt

Re: Fireface 400 with legacy drivers sluggish and slow

I would reinstall the legacy driver and retry, maybe during the Win 10 upgrade something became screwed up.

Make backups (Disk Images) of the boot disk with Windows (-> Macrium Reflect) to be able to restore just for the case something is getting even worse.

Re: Fireface 400 with legacy drivers sluggish and slow

If this doesnt cure the situation, then you might go back to the previous version and wait a little and retry the upgrade later in the hope some more things have been fixed by Microsoft ? Or even try the new 1909.

But in any case whatever you do ... before any change make a disk image of your System Disk !

Re: Fireface 400 with legacy drivers sluggish and slow

Thanks for the reply! I already tried to reinstall both, the FF400 drivers and the legacy FW drivers. But without success...

Can anyone recommend a reliable PCI-E Firewire 400 card?
