Topic: Does the fireface 800/ 400 firewire works well with the thunderbolt2

Hi i have rme babyface, but i would like to buy a second hand rme fireface 400 or 800 to connect at my macbook pro early 2015 (mac os 10.11 updated at 10.13) who has thunderbolt 2 connection... Does those interfaces works well with thunderbolt 2 adapter?All inputs / outputs are avaibles? Some real experience on the field?

I done, but i would like to have some official reply.. If you tested this configuration... Thank you! PS: I founded only the configuration with thunderbolt 3 / USB C connections, not with thunderbolt 2...

Several users have quoted success doing this, I use this setup with a Mac Mini 2012, but nobody will guarantee that it works perfectly for you.

MacBook Pro (NO direct Connection to USB C / Thunderbolt 3, but with Apple Adapter: Firewire -> Thundbolt 2 -> Thunderbolt 3)
iMac works with Thunderbolt 2

Fireface has Firewire Port (Adapter from Firewire to Thunderbolt 2 ... then - cause new MacBook Pro with USB-C Ports ... Thunderbolt 2 to Thunderbolt 3 Adapter = USB-C) ... thats it!

UFX connects perfectly with:
1) FW400/800 cable to 2015 iMac/TB 2
2) FW400 cable > FW800 adapter to 2011 MacBook Pro/TB 1
3) FW400/800 cable > FW800/TB2 adapter > TB2/TB3 adapter to 2019 iMac/TB 3

Thank you but i'm interested at rme fireface 400 or fireface 800 with firewire connection ... And i would like to use with a macbook pro with thunderbolt 2 ports...

TB1 or TB2 does not make any difference.

You just need this adapter:
https://www.apple.com/shop/product/MD46 … re-adapter

Then connect your Fireface 800 with a FW800 cable.

If you use a Fireface 400, you will instead need a cable with 9-pin on one end and 6-pin on the other end, aka FW800 to FW400 cable.
This chain will not provide bus power over FireWire, so you have to use the RME external power supply.
