Topic: UFX II XLR Out to RCA

Hi.

The manual explains that; "The electronic driver circuit of the XLR outputs does not operate servo-balanced! When connecting unbalanced equipment, make sure pin 3 of the XLR output is not connected. A
connection to ground will cause higher THD (distortion)!"

I understand that.... so in the past I've tied pin 3 to pin 1 on the F XLR as shown in example 6. Should I instead wire my XLR Pin 1 and 2 only to shield and hot as shown in example 4? Is it a matter of too much signal hitting my unbalanced (Adcom) amplifier? or is it harmful to the UFX in any way?

Thank you!!

Re: UFX II XLR Out to RCA

Examples 5 and 6 usually fail in real-world use due to the input side not seeing a real ground (they would work with a transformer-based output). Also having ground conections everywhere (via power outlets etc) pin 3 might still be connected to a (noisy) ground and thus be shorted. Therefore I can only recommend 4.
