Topic: Optical MADI on M-1610 Pro, 12Mic

Hi RME,

can you please provide more details on the optical MADI on the M-1610 Pro, 12Mic, AVB Tool? The connector socket doesn't look familiar to me, what's the story behind this? Is there still full support for optical MADI I/O? (Like many of us, I need this...)

Does M-1610 Pro make use of a fan?

Thanks for an answer!
Ulrich

Re: Optical MADI on M-1610 Pro, 12Mic

That connector socket (SFP) is industry standard and found very often in other devices. Just not so often with RME so far.

https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Small_For … _Pluggable

Googling will show that the SFP modules needed for MADI are not expensive.

More details upcoming.

Thanks, MC.
Would be great to have some practical instructions how to connect our existing SC devices with SFP devices.
Looking forward to these new products...

Re: Optical MADI on M-1610 Pro, 12Mic

I have compiled some information regarding optical cabling (cable and connector standards).

https://forum.rme-audio.de/viewtopic.ph … 84#p149684

I can add information about SFP to it at any time.

Thanks for the overview.

I still don't know: All my MADI devices (including my MADI "multicore" cable) are connected to each other with SC connectors. How can I integrate the M-1610 Pro into my setup?

To put an example, three MADI devices: UFX+, XTC, M-1610

UFX+-SC-------->-------SC-XTC-SC------------>-------LC-1610
         -SC--------------------------<------------------------LC-

UFX+ to XTC with LC/LC cable
XTC to M-1610 with LC/SC cable
M-1610 to UFX+ with LC/SC cable

Passive adapters from SC to LC are also available. Just Google it...

Re: Optical MADI on M-1610 Pro, 12Mic

Hi,

Looking at the product page it says that MADI optical is optional.
Presumably versions with and without MADI optical will be available - will both be available at launch?

Its an optional pluggable network module... Google for SFP ..

I googled and am still confused.

Does the M1610 have MADI optical ports or is it optional module I buy for it and install myself?
Do I need other hardware to connect it to other MADI optical gear eg UFX+, or is it just a cable?

Sorry - it's a bit confusing!

Re: Optical MADI on M-1610 Pro, 12Mic

The SFP is a hot pluggable network interface card. You can buy it and insert it into the devices SFP slot if you need it.
Therefore it is called optional.
Something like this already exists since over a decade in the network area for switches to have the flexibility there to choose between network types that you need, either copper, fiber or modules for long reach.

Got it.
Any recommendations from RME on what one to use, or are they all equivalent?

Re: Optical MADI on M-1610 Pro, 12Mic

There are RME modules but you can also choose 1310nm multimode modules with general firmware.
Something like this should work
