Topic: USB-c to DC power for powering fireface?

Dear all,

Does anybody have experience powering the fireface directly through usb-c instead of using the adapter that RME provides? There are usb-c to DC adapter cables but I am wondering if the up to 20V output of the USB-C is just too much for the DC input of the fireface or if it can handle it. Officially the power should be between 9 - 18 V but I haven't seen the absolute maximum specs in a data sheet.

Best, Hans.

USB-C provides the usual 5 Volts without negotiation through the PD (power delivery) standard. Such a cable can not work.

As far as I understand these devices have PD emulators that do the negotiation that you describe:

So it would be a cable with an emulator or a pd to dc cable with an emulator build into it.

The power supply specs are in the manual. 18 to 20 Volt will destroy many units, and I have no clue which one you have.
