Topic: Bizarre have to futz with gain to have same level

On the RME Babyface for a few years now.
Recording with AKG 414S microphones, many years many albums.

Yesterday out of the clear blue the left channel was always weaker than the right.
I changed all the cables including the USB to the Babyface; inverted the microphones, turned the power on and off to no avail.

The only way to have the same level for both left and right channels was to boost the left one by 10 points

Anyone have an idea what is going on? This has never happened ever.

Re: Bizarre have to futz with gain to have same level

Original babyface not pro? If yes maybe issue with the breakout cable? Easiest is to chack it with a multimeter or see if you can get the level back by wiggling it (the pro solution ;-)).

Babyface Pro Wiggled cables, changed them, changed the USB port still always 10 points lower to have the same level for the left channel! :-(

Full totalmix reset? Setting in recording software wrong or pan setting.
And where do you see the level mismatch? Totalmix?

Did total reset twice. See the level mismatch in :
1 - Totalmix FX
2 - In Logic
When recording the left signal is weaker also.
Tried also changing the pan stereo put to O

Tried line inputs, with something repeatable like a cd player? Do the mics still sound the same except for the level?

Re: Bizarre have to futz with gain to have same level

So I found a solution...
Not what I wanted.
I plugged in my Focusrit Clarett Pro 4 card
Works like a charm.
Not a single problem.

I still would like to know why the BabyfacePro has gone beserk...

Sounds like a known problem: toggle PAD and it might work again.

Thanks where is the PAD control? Found it 11 db damping.
