Topic: Use clock from HDSPe AIO or ADI-8 DS Mk III as master?

My setup consists of HDSPe AIO and is connected to ADI-8 DS Mk III via ADAT Toslink. Which clock is better (quality), use HDSPe AIO or ADI-8 DS Mk III as master?

System Win 10 Pro

Re: Use clock from HDSPe AIO or ADI-8 DS Mk III as master?

I would say that it doesn't matter much, the AIO should be fine.
RME clocks are well in general terms and both have Steadyclock.

For operational reasons I would make the AIO master, because then the ADI-8 learns clock automatically from AIO.
This is most practical if you work "on your PC" / "in your DAW projects" with different sample rates.
Then e.g. the DAW project sets the sample rate in the project, the AIO gets this information via ASIO driver
and the ADI-8 DS will be set automatically by ADAT.

For this to work you need a TOSLINK cable between AIO - ADAT OUT ----- > ADAT IN - ADI-8
so that it can receive the clock on its input.

@ramses
Thank you for the quick and logical tip. Yes, I already have the I/Os via ADAT Toslink.
Have a nice day. ;-)
