Topic: Hooking up external ADDA converter to RME UC

HI,

I would like to know how to setup a ecternal converter to my RME UC.

What connections can I use (depends of course on the external converter) but what are my options woth the RME UC since it has no AES/EBU connections?

via ADAT

As the UC has only 1 ADAT port you would get 8ch @44.1/48 or 4ch @88.2/96 kHz.

If you want to stay with RME converters and current models, then e.g. the ADI 8 DS MKIII would be a good choice.

You need 2 TOSLINK cables, Mutec's are good. Possible up to 10-15m.

Set the
- UC to clock master in the driver settings (clock source = internal)
- configure converter at the front to get clock from ADAT

If the uc has spdif in and out, That will also work as AES. There is a setting for it in the RME control panel.
You will need a spdif to AES converter cable. But spif and AES are equal in quality, no need to prefer one over the other. AES can have longer lenghts.

Thought 8ch converter btw ... therefore I didnt look for AES, maybe misunderstanding from my side.
