Topic: Is the HDSPe MADI compatible with Windows Server 2019 ?

Hi,

I have to provide hardware and OS requirements for a DELL server to a customer.
Is there anything special to take care of ?

I am currently targeting this configuration:
* Dell PowerEdge R240 or R340 (1U !)
* Intel Xeon E-2286G 4.0GHz
* Windows Server 2019 Essentials

Are the latest ASIO drivers compatible with Win Server 2019 ?
Do you see any difficulty to mount this card into a 1U chassis ?

1 RU = 1 3⁄4 inches (4,445cm)

Then you can't mount
- the RME PCIe card vertically, only horizontal, whether it fits I can't tell you
- silent blowers
- tower cooler for CPU

DELL is not my favourite when it comes to "quality" (BIOS, this and that).

1U PowerEdge R240/340 servers can apparently accommodate 2 PCIe cards, one full height and one low profile (mounted in parallel with the motherboard using a riser board). So as far I can see, it should be possible to mount the MADI card, not its extension board thought. But as I never did it myself so I wanted to check that there is nothing else "in the way".

As for the brand, I have to follow what the customer wish. They most of the time pick brand and stick with it to ensure proper and fast support.

This machine will be mounted in a datacenter/tech room, nobody care about the noise.

v4.29 is happy on 1809 (2019)
Also on 1607 (2016)

There is the little issue with RDP+Totalmix - totalmix not taking into account windows servers being multi-user OS:
-each RDP session user can control totalmix without what they are doing being visisble to other users on the system.
-eg any changes they make to totalmix take effect globally but doesn't show on the other users totalmix window, as say it does with totalmix remote.

also
-don't use setting 'store settings for all users' in HSDP settings
-don't use roaming prolifes on any domain accounts you use to logon to the machines.

You can only fit 1/2 the MADI cards.
Does the MADI work with only one board ?

imho you need a 2U chassis for that card.
PowerEdge R740 iirc has enough space for 3x full cards

HP are better for audio imho. As @Ramses mentions BIOS - normally HP bios gives you finer grain control over cpu functions etc. Ability to turn of speed/clock altering stuff etc.

You sure  you/they really want the 2019 Essentials version ?

Windows Small Business Server must be the root of the Active Directory forest.

really not helpful for a DAW machine ..


I'd get 2019 Standard over Essentials if at all possible.

Cheaper, simpler out the box.
