Topic: Fireface 400 - first hardware issue

So have had a fireface 400 for many years in one particular workstation and it is playing up. (win10 setup)

On power up there is no sound for several minutes and then a short squeal and static sound through outputs and audio then passes.

Also for the first time Totalmix is not recalling it's saved snapshot and failing to load the presets (resets to mixname : Mix 1, 2, 3 etc)

Found this thread on gearslutz which sounds like same issue for sound problem due to capacitors although I took the fireface apart and there was no obvious signs of cap bulging etc (I know bad caps wont always show visible signs)

Anyone have suggestions or knowledge of this?

Many Thanks

You checked your power supply?

Thanks for reply

No I have not checked the power supply.

What should I be looking for regarding issues with PSU?

The Fireface powers on just fine, displays all LED as usual but no sound for first few minutes.

Will switch to BUS power only and test over next few days and report back.

So It has seemed to be fine working on BUS power (audio works immediately)

I am not an electrician and would like to know how the external PSU can power up the unit but the unit will not operate correctly until a while later (passes no audio then the strange wining noise and audio is fixed)

Might break open the PSU and see if any bad caps in there?

Thanks

The PS is not repairable. Just get a new one.
