Topic: RME 800 blasting noise out of all outputs

Hi all,

Recently my RME 800 started blasting noise out of all outputs when I'm playing back audio. When I stop the audio playback, the noise persists for a while and then stops. The interface is completely quiet when I'm not playing back audio.

Around two years ago, I recapped the PSU because it gave off a lot of coil whine. It worked great after that. I recapped it again when It started outputting the noise; this did not help, so I bought a new PSU, but sadly to no avail. I tried different wall sockets, firewire cables, and different power cables, but sadly this all gave the same result.

Is my RME 800 dead, or is there something I can try to save it?

OS: macOS Catalina (latest)

Do you see errors in the Settings dialog? The FireWire chip might be damaged. Did you try the other port, or the 800 one?

Hi MC,

Yes, I tried different ports both on the RME and my Mac and different firewire cables (400 and 800) same result/noise.

The driver is fine and I can change the settings without any issues.

Then sorry, no idea. You could send it in for service and quotation, we still repair that stuff.
