Topic: Babyface Pro FS connecting mic + synth/mixer to output to iPhone

I'd like to connect a mic using the Mic XLR input and also a stereo line output from either a synth/mixer into In3/In4 using a TRS to TS converter plug. Is this possible?

Or, should I plug the synth/mixer into the XLR inputs and then plug in the Mic using a TS cable into In3?

Also, I'd like to use this to output to an iPhone to capture audio/video either using the default camera app or a third party app. Is it possible to mix the signal from the mic and synth/mixer on the BabyFace Pro to output to a stereo channel recognisable to the camera app? Or does the mixing have to be on the iPhone itself using an app which is able to recognise multiple audio tracks from the BabyFace Pro?

Re: Babyface Pro FS connecting mic + synth/mixer to output to iPhone

In your case you need to connect
- Mics to AN 1/2 IN
- synth/mixer to AN 3/4 IN

See also chapter 5 of the manual which describe the features of inputs and outputs:

What you might not know yet as starting user, also the technical specification delivers answers to you in chapter 27, I created a diagram so that you can see what I mean:

The detailed manuals from RME are really an enrichment, you can find very useful information therein.

Re: Babyface Pro FS connecting mic + synth/mixer to output to iPhone

Generally, synth/mixer outputs are balanced TRS, In3/In4 are unbalanced TS, do I need to convert it using something like the below?

Re: Babyface Pro FS connecting mic + synth/mixer to output to iPhone

Ok, after some experimentation with the ios camera app,  by default it picks up the first 2 channels from the babyface pro, the camera app also does not support audiobus, so, it is not possible to mix the various channels using the iphone using an app such as AUM. As far as I'm aware, it is also not possible to mix this internally in the babyface pro and present this to the iphone in channels 1/2, perhaps this could be a feature enchamement that maybe possible in the future.

In the meantime, the workarounds that I can think of are,
1) Record the audio on another device (e.g. laptop) and merge the audio and video using iMovie or equivalent
2) Connect the synth and mic into a mixer and the output from the mixer into the babyface pro channels 1/2

Are there any aother alternatives available?
