Topic: FF802 Converters Compared to FF800

Hello,

I've used a FF800 with no issues for about 9 years. It's been a workhorse. I recently switched from PC to Mac and the FF800 has been working alright with a simple Mac Firewire to Thunderbolt converter.

Given my FF800's age, I've started to look into getting a newer interface. Given my FF800's great track record, I'm planning on sticking with RME.

My question is, will I see major improvements in my audio quality with the newer converters?

I use external preamps (API, UAD, Sytek) and an external monitor controller, so the converters would probably be the main reason for the upgrade.

I've searched the forum and wasn't able to find any similar topics. If I missed any, please feel free to point me to past discussions. And I apologize if I'm an idiot and asking a question that's been asked a million times.

RME converters are known to be of high quality and transparent not adding any kind of "mojo",
which at the end would only alter the signal compared to the original.

Newer RME converters benefit from newer converter technologies in terms of conversion speed, SND, THD.

There are also some improvements in several areas to be seen:
- MADIface driver supports ASIO buffersizes down to 32 samples
- newer phones outputs have a lower impedence and in some cases more power
