Topic: High CPU Load with TotalMix FX

When I enable Reverb (even with no sends enabled) or (it seems to a lesser degree) Echo, CPU load soars. Total Mix goes from 0.4%-0.8% CPU load to anywhere from 5% to 15% CPU load. It exceeds the load that Cantabile puts on the system, running two simultaneous instances of Kontakt with significant sound libraries (The Grandeur and Patchman's WindSynth libraries).

TotalMix 1.67, Win10x64

Any clues?

Should - and actually is on my laptop - more like 1 or 2% CPU load.

Re: High CPU Load with TotalMix FX

Well, it is pretty clearly the FX ... Task Manager responds very quickly to turning Reverb and Echo on and off.

And rather than listing my system specs (a 2-core Wintel Laptop), I'm just comparing it against the 10ish% load of Catablile running **significant** Kontakt sound libraries ...

Odd. Isn't the Babyface Pro FS using hardware support for those FX?

Re: High CPU Load with TotalMix FX

Hi!

Odd. Isn't the Babyface Pro FS using hardware support for those FX?

Here's a quote from the manual:

The Babyface Pro uses a DSP engine within its FPGA for all the calculations of all the EQs and Low Cuts, in parallel to the TotalMix DSP mixing engine.
However, Reverb and Echo are calculated on the host CPU - the computer. On current computers, this will not cause any noticeable CPU load.

The transmission of the stereo signal FX Send to the computer and the effects signal FX Out
back to the Babyface Pro is done by two invisible ASIO channels. The delay (latency) generated
by this method is of no consequence for the offered effects reverb and echo. But it is still taken
into account for the adjustment of the Reverb PreDelay.
The lowest value depends on the currently chosen buffer size (see Settings dialog, chapter 8.1).

On my PC is 0.1% and when I open it it's 0.3-0.4%
