Topic: Crashes in Monitors

I.
using iMac with latest macOs and updated drivers + firmware on Fireface802

Every time I stand up from the desk I hear crash/slap/noice in monitors Tannoy Gold8.
I didnt have such problem for many years.  And in headphones there is no audible crash to be heard either now. and in second pair of monitors from QSC also no problem.

Custom made TRS cables are same for both monitor sets and instalation is stability without changes.

Is this problem caused with Fireface /damaged , too old...) or is this any static electricity problem?

How to fix it?

Re: Crashes in Monitors

Not easy, lot of questions.
Connection of the speakers, with ballanced cables ?
When you unplug the Fireface from the computer and leave it on (on power), is the noise still coming when you stand up ?
Where is the Fireface placed ? on the desk next to the computer or in a rack on another desk ?
Is there a carpet on the floor ?
Are you doing some kind of movements at the desk, rolling around with the chair ?
Can you see that noise in the computer Totalmix or Digicheck ?
can you record the noise with camera and give the link here ?
On the back of your monitors there is this switch for auto-standby, can you switch it off ?
Can you replace the power cables of these monitors ?

Re: Crashes in Monitors

Do you by chance have a gas lift office chair? Have you tried replacing it with another one (fixed-height, i.e. just a normal chair)?

NO, BUT I TRIED WITH CARPET AND SAME CHAIR - but happens again. When changing from orange chair to basic chair - crashes stop  see photo https://www.dropbox.com/s/q976v3ezlxumu … 1.jpg?dl=0
WHY IT IS PROBLEMATIC WITCH ORANGE CHAIR?

Here is a white paper with background information: http://www.emcesd.com/pdf/eos93.pdf

...and a link to a casual discussion: https://www.reddit.com/r/pcmasterrace/c … rning_our/

Basically, the gas lift in combination with the metal legs leads to a spike in electromagnetic emission.

Did you have the Tannoy Gold8 before, or are they new?
Same cabling as before? Same power socket?

Every cable in the system, even how every cable runs in the room, could be the root cause, as they work as an antenna and potentially receive the electromagnetic pulse. Ferrite rings might help, but you'd have to identify where to put them first...

Btw, you did check, that the cable is properly balanced, did you?

Re: Crashes in Monitors

Tannoys are new in my system (replaced Yamaha HS80 after many years).
All the rest remained the same - socket, balanced cables...

Thanks for all interesting information!
I will try to identify spot...

Re: Crashes in Monitors

Probably the Tannoy Gold 8 has a grounding problem, preventing the electrostatic discharge from the gas shock to flow to earth.

You can try with an extra wire from the Tannoy's shield at the inputs to mains ground, if there is a working one.

Problems like this often disappear miraculously when the weather is wet. I don't mean a bit of moisture in the air, but heavy rain for a few days at least.

Your ground connection could be in a sandy soil. When sand is dry, it's an almost perfect isolator...
