Topic: TotalMix FX: Possible to stop reporting unused inputs/outputs to DAW?

I'm using a UFX+ as my primary interface, and have additional converters, the Ferrofish A32 connected via MADI and the ADI-2 connected via AES. Normally, TotalMix shows the channels as: Analog 1-12, then after that is AES 1-2 (as inputs 13-14), then ADAT 1-16 (as inputs 15-30), then MADI 1-64 (as inputs 31 on up). The ADAT channels are totally unused, so I have them hidden in TotalMix FX. This helped a lot to de-clutter TotalMix, and is a great feature.

However, the DAWs still see these unused channels. The trouble with this is, let's say I have 20 tracks created, and want use the 12 analog inputs on the interface, the 2 AES inputs, and then 6 of the MADI inputs after that. In the DAW, I'd have to set them like:
DAW Track 1-12: UFX Inputs 1-12 (Analog inputs on UFX)
DAW Track 13-14: UFX Inputs 13-14 (AES Inputs)
DAW Track 15-20: UFX Inputs 31-36 (MADI Inputs)

So, I have to skip channels 15-30 since those are typically assigned as the ADAT inputs, which are being unused. Even though ADAT is unused and hidden in TotalMix, the DAW still sees them, and there is no way to 'hide' them from the DAW, or to even rearrange which channels are reported to the DAW in which order (Ideally, if I was not able to hide the ADAT channels, I'd place MADI channels before ADAT channels, so that the channel numbers increase in a linear pattern). This is a bigger problem when I switch from 44k to 88k. In this case, channels 9-16 of ADAT will disappear, and all of the MADI channels that come after it will get shifted over by 8, and this can really cause headaches with mapping inputs and outputs in DAWs.

I know that it is possible to change channel mapping settings in the DAW itself and remove those channels from the DAW, but not every DAW has this functionality. Even with the DAWs that do, changing from 44k to 88k still sometimes causes problems with channel mapping settings. It would be a better solution to be able to simply disable unused channels so that the DAW does not see them, although I am not sure if this is possible.

Is disabling ADAT entirely (so that the DAW does not see it) possible at all using a UFX interface, or alternatively, re-arrange how the channels appear, placing MADI before ADAT? If it is not currently possible, this would likely be a great quality-of-life feature that I hope would be implemented in the future!

Stuff like that is on our list already.

I'm running into this issue with Abelton. Has anything been implemented since the original post was made.

I don't use ADAT on my UFX IiI but run MADI via an M-32 AD Pro II.
