Topic: Fireface UFX unresponsive after extreme loud noise

Hey everyone,

I'm a musician based out of Berlin and I've had a fireface UFX for 9-10 years now and it's worked amazingly, but yesterday it seems to have completely died.  I was eating in another room and I suddenly heard an extreme sustained static noise coming from my monitors.


The ARC USB controller would not work, and i had to shut the monitors off and everything else.  The fireface was registering audio coming through it on channels 1, 3, 5, 7, 9/10, and 11/12, even though nothing was coming through.


I unplugged all the ins and outs and tried it in a different room with my laptop, and now it just simply does not detect any audio coming through, on any input.


I did the hardware test and these were the numbers:

if I leave it on for a while, the lights and inputs start flickering, even with nothing plugged in

any ideas what this could be? also, what is the process for repair?

I had the same issue some time ago.

I turned out to be the power supply.

my recommendation: replace the power supply or repair it (if you can).

Now its working again like a charm.

Indeed it's most probably the power supply. Have exchanged it last year as my UFX showed very similar behaviour.

If it's not available from synthax.co.uk you can mail german distributors, they can get it for you. Can't remember where I've actually got it from but it was one of the big stores.

My UFX, about 10 years old, works like on day one since then.

Hi marQs,  I've got a UFX+ that won't power on at all. How difficult was it to swap out the power supply in your UFX? I have some electronics/soldering experience.

Hi gkm, I can't exactly remember tbh. Just some screws and a multipin to remove and bring back in place with the new power supply I think. If it would have been much more I surely would remember ;-)
