Topic: Buy or not buy

Hi,

I have the opportunity to buy 2x ADI-8 DS, (Maybe the 1x ADI-4 DD) and a Hammerfall DSP digiface (old) for 497,50,- EURO. I don't need the Hammerfall DSP unit..

As for my setup now I got a Digiface USB with 1x ADI-8 DS and two FireFace400. This setup is rock solid, but I want more I/O to my analog consoles / outboards. So adding 2 more ADI-8 DS and get rid of one Fireface 400 is my thought. If the ADI-4 DD is in this package deal I will most likely use it later to connect the new ADI-2 FS etc.

You might need (highly recommended) to renew the internal power supplies. But even that added it's a very good deal.

Re: Buy or not buy

Hi,

Thank you for the replies. Yeah, I had to change the PSU on one unit that was from 2012. I recon these two adi-8 DS are older because of the color of the faceplates. Is it possible to get to know when those units was made?

One question I had: Is it possible to use both my Digiface USB and the older Digiface at the same time? Or is it impossible due to driver conflicts.

Best

Re: Buy or not buy

Not as one asio driver, but yes as separate devices for different applications.
I have a hdsp and babyface installed atm and just have to choose which to use. No conflicts.

Re: Buy or not buy

I understand. Just like I thought it would be.

So he found a third ADI-8 laying around too, so it looks like I get 3 ADI-8. I also got the ADI-4 in this package deal. I'm quite satisfied with this deal now. It will fill all my needs for the next 10 years or so. Great music was made using these AD/DA converters in the past. No need for the newest stuff all the time big_smile

Re: Buy or not buy

Great!
I would ask the seller if the PSU's were ever replaced and if not ask MC if it is wise to do so preventively.
I know from one psu, here on the forum, that failed and burned part of the mobo. When my psu died my ADI8AE just stopped working and was working again with a new psu.

Re: Buy or not buy

I must admit all this talk of PSU failures is a bit disconcerting. I have equipment 35 year old without this type of problem.

Babyface Pro Fs, Behringer ADA8200, win 10/11 PCs, Cubase/Wavelab, Adam A7X monitors.

Re: Buy or not buy

Yeah, I know. I had to change the PSU for an ADI-8 DS MK2 from 2011. I bought it used, but I was a bit surprised that it had gone bad already. I will definitely recap / change the PSU inn all the ADI-8 DS. Think the units will arrive this week smile So exited!

Re: Buy or not buy

It has arrived. I'm surprised over how good the HDSP Digiface interface is. I'm seriously considering switching from digiface USB to the HDSP Digiface interface. The only downfall is that I loose 8I/O of adat sad But, the digiface interfaces is so damn cheep today that maybe hooking up two is the way to go.

I took the blue pill big_smile

Cool!!! And better how? Lower latency possible? Less dropouts under load?

The latency was slightly better then the USB version. The difference is very small!! I'm going to do some stress-test with larger scaled project (orchestra/samples and synth related template) to see how they work against each other. But so far I'm impressed. Give me an RME interface with 8 adat I/O ports with USB 3. Would be a killer! smile
