Topic: Does a wrong connection cause latency issues?

Hey there.

I have a RME Fireface UC connected to my MacBook Pro M1 via a i-tec Thunderbolt 3 docking station:

Would it be better to connect the audio interface directly to the MacBook?

I am facing the following problem:

https://i.ibb.co/KNF5rkp/Latency-issue-Poly-Brute-Connect.png

In the upper case (first track), I trigger midi notes via the "PolyBrute Connect" plugin and record the audio, but it appears to early in Logic.

In the second case, I am using the "External Instrument" plugin and the audio hits up correctly.

I've written to the support of PolyBrute (company Arturia), but they don't know any cases of this problem and could not recreate it on their own..

So I thought, maybe I have made -physical- mistakes how I've connected the devices to each other?

Does Logic have a midi offset setting? I know Cubase does.

Yes, it does have one:

But if I would set a delay, it would affect all midi notes, and the one of the external instrument plugin are already correct?!

P.S.: Do you think that the docking station could be the wrongdoer?

Re: Does a wrong connection cause latency issues?

If you record just midi are the midi notes in time? If they are then what about track offset? If they actually occur early then you want to use midi offset to get the actual midi in place. I can’t comment about the docking station as I’m a pc user and don’t have enough knowledge regarding this.

Re: Does a wrong connection cause latency issues?

Have you enabled the Low-Latency-mode in Logic ?
It is under menu Recording, it is useful during recording, after the recording for listening and mixing etc. it is better to switch it off.
About the docking hub, I don't have such things, connecting audio interfaces always directly into the computer as mentioned in the user manual page 89.

Re: Does a wrong connection cause latency issues?

I've just tried to record midi and audio at the same time.. And both are recorded earlier than expected.. hmm

I've tried the Low-Latency-Mode, but it did not help.. Especially because I have an empty project and absolute no plugins in there, so there are no latency producing audio-fx plugins like limiter or so.

My guess is:
- try to plug the audio interface directly to the Mac (I am awaiting an Apple adapter, to do so)
- and maybe it correlates with the new and own Apple chip M1 that I am using?!

It's really annoying.

Hello!

You can have a look here: https://support.apple.com/guide/logicpr … 21b38a/mac

and experiment with the "All MIDI Output"  Delay setting or the "MIDI Time Code" settings!

I 'm not a Mac user, but this is where I 'd look, first!

In Logic Preferences > Audio > Devices, is Recording Delay set to 0 samples?
