Topic: FireFace 800 internal acoustic clicking noises

Hello RME community!

For a couple of years now I own a FireFace 800 and every once in a while it made a weird arhythmic clicking sound coming from inside the device. Shutting it down and letting it rest for a while fixed it in most cases and then it took weeks for it to reoccur. Now its happening more regularly, nearly daily.

It does NOT interfere in any way with the signal, analog or digital, but it is audibly coming from the device.
Here is a link to a video which demonstrates the exact sound it produces:

Does anyone have similar experiences with this? Could you fix it? Where would I go to get it fixed?
Apologies beforehand if this landed in the wrong place of the forum, any help is much appreciated!

All the best!
Justin

Re: FireFace 800 internal acoustic clicking noises

Wow. I've owned my 800 for fifteen years and I've never heard anything like that come out of it. Perhaps it's time for it to take a little trip to your country's nearest RME authorized service location, as unpleasant as that prospect might seem. It could be the switching power supply.

Just out of interest, why is the Time Code Option light flashing? Do you indeed have that optional add-on installed? (Mine doesn't.) Does the clicking noise change or go away when you choose the Clock Mode as "Master" and not "AutoSync" in the Settings?

you were on the right track! It definitely has to do with the TCO module, now I just need to figure out how to bypass the TCO since I anyways have no use for it, in the Fireface settings when I activate the option '75 Ohm Term.' under 'video / Word' the clicking sound intensifies by a lot!

You deactivate it by setting the clock mode to internal or Master, as fl wrote.
