Topic: Strange Total Mix Guitar Input issue

So I have the original blue RME babyface with Total Mix 1.61

My issue is sometimes my guitar input works and other times it doesn't.  To get the babyface to recognize the guitar again I need to unplug from the babyface and into a real stand-alone guitar amp.  Then unplug from the guitar amp and back into the babyface.  If I just unplug and plug it back into the babyface it does not work.  It is almost like it needs the guitar cord to have been live recently.  I made sure to ask my girlfriend if I was truly experiencing this to make sure I just wasn't going crazy and losing my mind.  What is going on and how can I fix this?

EDIT: Just updated to 1.73, will see if problem comes back

This makes limited sense.... What exactly does "recongnize" refer to? There is nothing to "recognize" with a simple audio signal. Which input is the guitar connected to, how does it behave with other sources?
