Topic: Fanless computer for my RME UC

Hi to all
I am moving for some time and I am not being able to carry the UFX which I usually use as a standalone machine. I can only take with me the UC that I still own, but I need a fanless computer to record with because I need something that produces zero noise.
Would you give me an advice which would be both compatible with the interface and also affordable?
I will be using it to record  mainly 2 channels but 192khz/24 bits
thank you.

Re: Fanless computer for my RME UC

The Macbook Air M1 works pretty well with the Firefaces and has no noise coming out.
I am not familiar with windows Pcs but usually there will pop up some computers similar to macs.

Thank you, but I was thinking about something more affordable like the Acer Chromebook 514 as just a medium to record with no noise, but I have no idea if this system would work or if there are other options. Thank you anyway,

Other idea would be, looking out for a used UFX ll or UFX+, it has DUREC, may be this would fit your demands too.

Maybe this overview helps:

You can set the filter as you like ... passive cooling .. not so many devices.
I would definitively recommend a non-glare display.

Re: Fanless computer for my RME UC

For me, as I only need it for half a year the thing is, what would be the cheapest fanless laptop I can buy where I can record with my UC.

I am not sure if you read and understood my posting #5

You can now filter out the devices according to your criteria in geizhals.de and then automatically see what influence the parameters have on price and features. I have set the filters according to my taste, you can also deselect something here and there, but I think it will have to be something in that range so that performance and ergonomy doesn't suck too much for you.

I go one step further and ask, would something like this thing, allow me to record (without trouble) 192khz/24bits, with my UC ?

Re: Fanless computer for my RME UC

I personally would not go for cheap off the shelf computers. If you read the horror stories people have with glitches or pops and clicks, then get something that is tested for audio recording especially if you want to record at high bit rates. No one can tell you if that particular computer will or will not work unless they have one, or have specifically tested it with audio recording at the bit rate  you want and with your audio interface. Laptops especially are notorious for oddities in bios and having bottle necks causing these problems. You may get lucky though. Many do

1 Stereo track. 2 mics, obviously, at 192khz/24bit. No effects.

Windows tablets usually work quite well. I still use this little Trekstor thing.

On the iPhone the issue is the same, images don't load.
On another Macbook with Google Chrome browser no issue, images load proper.
I always used Safari onboard standard browser.
The issue seems to be a Safari problem.

Oh, really? I'm not using Safari, though. Doesn't seem to work on Firefox and Edge...

Wow, this seems for me the way to go. I will try to find one of those windows tablets. If I understand well, I should be able to install the RME UC driver well there and record my 2 channels with no problems (hopefully).

Re: Fanless computer for my RME UC

Yes, and even more (if needed)... Must admit I don't really know the current market, my tablet is quite a few years old.

Re: Fanless computer for my RME UC

I'm using this https://www.lenovo.com/us/en/p/desktops … e-m90n-iot as a music appliance.

It runs Tidal, Musicbee, Foobar2000. I connect to several DDCs via USB. No problems with audio. I can play up to DSD 256, no problems of any kind.

The US Lenovo site shows this unit as discontinued but it is still available here (CR) and I'll probably get another one since I like the connectivity and performance is fine. I'd like more RAM but so far it has not been an issue.

I'm running my RME ADI-2 DAC FS (2nd gen) off another small Lenovo, but it has a fan and it is annoying.
