Topic: Digiface Dante not working as standalone converter

We’ve set up a Digiface Dante to convert a Dante input to the Madi output 1 to 1. It works fine having set up the routing in Totalmix, but when we turn it off and on again the MADI output doesn’t register on the MADIface XT we’re feeding it to.

The only way to fix it is to plug in the Digiface USB port which seems to ‘refresh’ the routing, and then plug the XT back in. Obviously it’d be much better if it did this automatically as a standalone converter.

Any advice please?

Re: Digiface Dante not working as standalone converter

You can not set up a Dante/MADI routing in TM FX for standalone mode. It is always 1:1, means Dante channel 1 to MADI channel 1 etc. Only custom phones routing is remembered.

----------------------
5.2 Quick Start

Stand-alone Operation

The Digiface Dante can be used stand-alone, powered by the included power supply. Alterna-tively USB bus power from a USB power wall wart or USB battery can be used. When not con-nected to a computer host the device operates as 64 channel MADI to/from Dante converter. All channels are transferred to the other format unchanged, both ways.

To make most use of the additional Phones output, a submix of all MADI and Dante input channels can be set up in computer-connected operation, and stored in the Digiface Dante for stand-alone operation. To store the current Submix Phones go to Options, Store current State into Device in TotalMix FX.

Thanks for the quick reply - the routing I set up in Totalmix was effectively 1 to 1 but it seems you’re saying this is coincidence as Totalmix doesn’t apply when usb is unplugged?

In which case why does MADI output disappear in standalone mode when device is powered off then on again?

Just following up this question which is quite a limitation.

Currently the only solution is to plug the Digiface Dante into a computer via usb which seems to ‘refresh’ the 1:1 outputs…

You seem to have missed firmware update 39.

Thanks this seemed to fix it.

However, we still have same problem with a Madifact XT which is feeding another madiface for a backup recording.

When the first computer is restarted, the MADI outputs are muted?

That reads more like an unrelated issue which needs a better description.
