Topic: ADI-8 DS + Babyface Pro via ADAT digital noise

Hello everyone.
I have BF Pro, and decided to extend analog inputs by purchasing ADI-8 DS (i guess not mk3, the old one) for good price instead of Behringer. I really like that company and stuff it produces, but RME is better in AD/DA area)
Anyway, I have connected my BF Pro via adat in/out to corresponding MAIN in/outs on converter.
On the  front  panel i set CLOCK to INPUT for both AD/DA.

When I set the clock to EXT which I guess means world clock, it gives me constant digital noise in specific channel. So, is  it normal or not? My setup is based on ADAT connection, but just to be sure that hardware is not faulty.

Inputs seems to work fine btw

Many thanks for providing information and pictures.

I do not have these devices, but I am pretty sure that it should work more or less like this when reading the manuals.

I assume the following setup, cabling:
- BBF Pro is clock master (RME settings: clock source = internal)
- ADI-8 DS is clock slave and gets clock from BBF Pro via ADAT IN

Please note: Word Clock (WC) is not required.

Settings:
- BBF Pro   = "clock master" (RME driver settings: clock source = "internal")
- ADI-8 DS = "clock slave", at the front panel check these 3 settings:
  - set digital input to ADAT
  - D/A has preference and needs to be set 1st:  set clock for D/A to "input" (note: in the step before you set this to "ADAT")
  - A/D, set clock to "input".

Needs TOSLINK cable between:
- BBF Pro "ADAT OUT"                   and  ADI-8 DS ADAT INPUT "MAIN" (needed for receiving clock from BBF Pro)
- ADI-8 DS ADAT OUTPUT "MAIN"  and  BBF Pro "ADAT IN"

for  ADI8  is set to Internal
connections made as you described:
BF out linked to ADAT optical connector just over the TRS inputs.
BF in linked to ADAT optical connector just over the TRS outputs.

in this configuration everything works fine. but when I set clock at A/D section to EXT, it starts giving noise in specific channel. and EXT led starts blinking.

EXT is for Word Clock, so this setting is invalid in your system. The AD and DA should both be INPUT for the clock section.
