Topic: HDSP 9632 on PCI-Ex16 Slot

Hi everyone,

I wanted to know if an RME HDSP 9632 PCI card also fits into a PCI-EX16 slot on my motherboard? My motherboard is an MSI B450 Tomahawk Max.

Best regards, Chris

No

PCI and PCIE use completely different signaling and the slots are mechanically different too so no, you cannot put a PCI cards in a PCIE slot directly. There probably are PCI-to-PCIE bridge adapter cards out there though... or maybe FireWire to USB2/3 adapters.

Conventional PCI will not work in PCI Express slots. However, PCI Express x1 cards will work in PCI Express x16 slots without issue. You do not need an adapter for that.

Your motherboard does not have any Conventional PCI slots, just PCI Express slots. Conventional PCI slots are taller and keyed differently from PCI Express slots.

I was having the same question, and I found this adapter... any idea if that would work ?

I recently upgraded my setup with a new computer and a Raydat.. but was wondering if I could also install the 9652 with this adapter along the raydat. It's maybe not very proper...

Yes that should work. Although it is system dependent. But usually it just works. Especially with startech. Cheaper are more hit and mis.

I solved the problem like this:

Beware that if you plan to virtualize Windows 10 on QEMU, as I was initially wanting to do, the IOMMU grouping for the legacy PCI port is shared with an USB and a SATA controller.
