Topic: No MADI Input signal

Hello!

I'm using the MADIface XT for my DMX R100 mixer. The MADIface output signal works just fine but the input is not receiving anything. Cables are fine. The routing in the DMX R100 should fine as well. The DMX R100 MADI-card is fully working. Any ideas what I'm doing wrong?

Input Status on Fireface USB settings is 'NO LOCK' on everything. I have checked my settings and followed the signal flow hundreds of times but nothing seems to work sending from the DMX-board to MADIface XT.

Re: No MADI Input signal

You have checked the settings, what are those ?
Is clock-mode set to Clock Source =MADI ?
How did you test the DMX R100 card for knowing it's fully working ?
Have you done a cable loopback test there ?

Re: No MADI Input signal

Hello waedi and thank you for your time!

The settings are:

Fireface USB clock source Internal
DMX R100 clock source WORD DI -  REF IN or Slot4 (dmx MADI card) (either option gives me Input status 'No Lock' in Fireface)
But if I set the DMX R100 to Internal and Fireface to Word Clock In I get input status Sync on Word but still No Lock on MADI 1,2 and 3.

The DMX hardware switches are flipped to the proper settings. Routing PGM L/R to MADI Out 1/2. Tried every MADI out, even sending an OSC through every output to see if RME picks up any signal. No luck..

I have not done a cable loopback test. What is this?

Thanks waedi, really appreciate your help!

Re: No MADI Input signal

A cable Loopback shows if there are signals going out thru the output as it should.
You can connect a cable from output to input and play a signal, if you see the same signal on the inputs then the test is good and the R100 works.
Please try R100 clock internal and Madiface clock external MADI.

Re: No MADI Input signal

Definitely feeding back when doing the cable loopback. Thank you for helping me.

Setting R100 clock to internal + Fireface USB clock source to Word Clock In results in following input status

Word Sync; 46 kHz
MADI 1 No Lock; No Lock

Re: No MADI Input signal

Why choose word clock when MAdI is connected ?
Select clock Madi

Re: No MADI Input signal

Because the DMX R100 console will not clock from the MADI stream, but rather needs a separate clock on coax.

Re: No MADI Input signal

My bad, sorry I overlooked it,
so you have a BNC cable connected from the Madiface XT WC out (upper left connector) to the R100 WC in.
For a test, can you disconnect that BNC cable ?
Then set R100 clock internal and Madiface clock external MADI.

Re: No MADI Input signal

No worries, i really appreciate your help!

BNC cable disconnected and R100 clock set to internal.

In Fireface USB I have selected clock source MADI.
Current clock in Fireface USB is still set to Internal and it seems I can't manually change that anywhere.

BTW, when I disconnect the BNC cable I get input status No Lock on all inputs.
Plugging it back in with R100 internal and Fireface USB to MADI gives me current clock Word Clock with input status Word Sync 48 kHz

In the Settings dialog in the computer (where the Madiface is connected to)

Re: No MADI Input signal

You are at the right place ant it seems to be ok.

Do you play a music from the R100 to send over Madi to the Madiface ?

The R100 is probably in standby until it play something...

Re: No MADI Input signal

Yes, I play music from Logic Pro through Madi out 1-48. Everything seems to hit the meters correctly on R100. The signal out from MADIface XT works very well. Just can't get my signal out from the R100 back to the Madiface XT. Below is my R100 routing.

Re: No MADI Input signal

That is painful. I can't see anything wrong on the photos, wondering why Madi channels are 1 - 48 instead of 1 - 64 ?
Is the Madi connection done with optical or BNC cable ?

Re: No MADI Input signal

Very painful indeed. Thank you very much for helping me troubleshooting so far. Very kind of you.

The capacity of the DMX R100 madi card is 48 channels.

I have tried madi connection through both optical and BNC.

DMX R100 running firmware 2.23. No idea what firmware the DMBK R109 card is at.
