Topic: UCXll driver for OS X 10.6
Hi there. My Mac is old. Running 10.6.
The 2.22 driver says it’s for the ucx. Will it work with the updated UCXll?
What about the firmware updater? Yes/no?
Ya, I know buy a new mac, lol

Got my UCXll plugged in. 2.22 drivers installed and nothing. Total is DOESNT load. RME fire face settings icon does nothing as well.
Reinstall? Or is this not going to work?
Flash tool also does nothing.
User manual says OS X 10.6 minimum.
Manual says reboot not needed, but installer said to reboot. So I rebooted. Ucx is not showing up. Total mix won’t load.
Reinstall and not reboot ?
2.22,reinstalled. Nothing.
I switched to CC mode and there she was in settings (OS X), and logic as an option.
Gonna go with no drivers for me.
I’m actually running 10.7 not 10.6.
According to manual
- ch 6.3: flashing is only possible with an installed driver
- ch 3 (system requirements) UCX II needs a driver Intel Mac OS X (10.12 or up)
According to UCX II product page, download section there are two drivers possible for this device:
macOS 10.12 up to 10.15 driver for Fireface UFX / UFX+ / UFX II, 802, UCX, UCX II, UC, Babyface, Babyface Pro, MADIface XT/USB/Pro
https://rme-audio.de/downloads/driver_usb_mac_3221.zip
macOS 11/12 USB Series Driver
USB 2/3 driver for macOS 11 and up. Version 3.27. Supports Intel and M1.
https://rme-audio.de/downloads/driver_usb_mac_327.zip
The UCX II requires 10.9 or up, which is available via driver 2.23, see website.
The UCX II requires 10.9 or up, which is available via driver 2.23, see website.
Did you see that driver 2.23 is missing in the download section of the UCX II ?
Driver 2.23 is listed for the UCX and there the UCX II is even mentioned in the list of supported devices,
but if you have an UCX you wouldn't normally look there.
The UCX II manual needs an adjustment, instead of 10.12 or higher the requirement is 10.9 or higher.
On the UCX page there is even a 1.68 driver to support 10.5, would that work for UCX II as well ? Or is that so old that RME doesn't test compatibility to newer devices like the UCX II anymore, but that there might be a chance that it works ?
BTW, is it correct that I see here a certain gap regarding support for MacOS versions 10.6 - 10.8?
Driver 1.68 support 10.5
Driver 2.23 supports 10.9 - 10.13 (<---- missing on download page for UCX II)
Driver 3.221 supports 10.12 - 10.15
Driver 3.27 supports MacOS 11, 12 and M1 chip

No, thanks for the note, I fixed it.

I can't change all manuals for any tiny detail which change every day.

That should be obvious - how can a driver work for a device that did not exist when the driver was written?

Driver 1.68 support 10.5
Driver 2.23 supports 10.9 - 10.13
The gap is irrelevant. Driver 2.22 fills it, but this is all too old, nobody cares about that anymore.

Manual chapter 3 says requires 10.6 and up. Which manual did you refer to?

Can’t change manuals for a tiny detail? It says 10.6 or higher. There is no paper manual for the UCXll. Can’t change online?
I get it, why would a driver work for a device that didn’t exist when the driver was written. But

I tried for 1.68 just for shits and giggles. No go.
Time for a new Mac anyway.
RME you now offer the arc bonus with UCXll purchase. I bought mine 3 days ago. Will you still honor even though I missed by 3 days?
Which manual I looked at ? Well the online version for the UCX II, what else ?! See chapter 3:
https://www.rme-audio.de/downloads/fface_ucx2_d.pdf
https://www.rme-audio.de/downloads/fface_ucx2_e.pdf
But as you could read now from MC, it is not being updated with any new driver change because of the high efforts having to change the manuals for all products.
So .. if you look for the latest drivers, the best is to look at the UCX II product page:
https://www.rme-audio.de/de_fireface-ucx-ii.html
There you find a "sub-page" for drivers.
Regarding which driver to take, didn't you read MC's post #7 ?!
MC: "The UCX II requires 10.9 or up, which is available via driver 2.23, see website."
So this one here: https://rme-audio.de/downloads/driver_usb_mac_223.zip

The manual I downloaded says 10.6 and up. That is the reason I posted on this forum.
I realize my Mac is from 2007.
I just wanted to know if I bought a dud.
So there’s either 2 different versions of the manual, or the manual was changed at some point.

The manuals are being updated, so it's worth to set a bookmark and to check from time to time. The manuals also include a version number and a timestamp, see in one of the last chapters, here ch 44, Appendix:
"Copyright Matthias Carstens, 06/2021. Version 1.2"
All good. Like I said it’s time for a new Mac.
Just wanted to know if the UCXll worked with 10.7 or if I had a defective unit.
Ok, finally .. does it work now if you use the correct driver 2.23 ?

I’ll let you know on Monday when my M1 arrives! Gonna say yes
