What kind of Mac is this exactly? Have you tried all available USB connections?

Are you using the latest driver 3.26?

A cable USB-C to USB-B would allow to connect the unit directly to the iMac.

Hi There,
After installing the latest driver 3.27 for FF802 my iMac M1 is still having kernel panic problems sudden reboot(after pink screen) since 2 months now on a weekly basis.
It is obvious that RME hardware are not working properly with the apple M1 machines.
This is getting quiet frustrating and the only solution seems to be switching to another audio interface.

I bought the FF802 brand new in 2018 .So it is not old and I only use it in the studio so I don't think there is a broken part since it stays in the rack.
I believe the issue is related to the kernel extension (in the security settings).
Have you experienced ever any sudden reboot / kernel panic indicating RME driver in the error log as I've posted here?

There is some space in the rack for ventilation ( the low and back side provide room for ventilation) so I am not sure that it is related to overheating...
I must say that the USB cable connection has not been at its best since I always had problems with my previous Mac ( and also my current macboook pro) while using the interface ( constant disconnection and reconnection) and now I am noticing (again) some clipping or "bursting" sound all of the sudden from the monitors (sound like a crackling). Could it be the issue in the USB hub or the USB cable itself?
I am thinking of getting a high end usb cable to connect it directly to the iMac but I am not 100% certain this will solve this issue and the Apple system reboots eventually...

I had a similar nightmare after buying the M1 mac. What I discovered, having another USB hub connected (even though not used for the RME card) can lead to problems, so testing with minimum peripherals connected + wifi & bluetooth switched off can help.

For me, directly connecting the RME card to the USB C port (not the USB A port) using Apple original adapter solved the trouble.

So in order to use the 802 we can't have a USB hub connected to a separate port? That won't work for me. Is that still the case for you?

Chiming in to add my voice to the people having something similar to this issue, but with a different interface. Any help would be incredibly appreciated!

Machine info:

• Mac Studio (M1 Ultra)

• 64GB RAM

• Running macOS Monterey 12.4

• RME Fireface UFX II, driver version 3.27, firmware v111, just a few weeks old

• RME ARC USB added into the mix last week.

My computer is shut down every night and freshly booted every morning. I've had 5 crashes in the past 48 hours that I can confirm being kernel panics that I believe are caused by the de.rme-audio.driver.RMEFirefaceUSB kernel extension:

1. Just using the machine and listening to music

2. When using Logic Pro

3. And 1 each while on meetings using Zoom, a huddle in Slack, and Google Meet

Some really interesting information and symptoms that may or may not help:

• Has occurred with UFXII plugged into a very high-power, high quality StarTech USB hub and when plugged directly into a port on the Mac using an Apple USB-A to USB-C adapter

• System exhibited some audio instability and stutters for about 30? minutes leading up to the crash.

• I run Rogue Amoeba's Loopback and have for many years, and had no issue with my previous interface on this M1 (Apogee Element 88). While no one's mentioned this in the thread, my next troubleshooting step will be to disable it -- just in case.

• Most curious & interesting: Something in macOS seems to bomb out first, which seems to kill USB input peripherals. This freezes my USB-connected keyboard and trackball or makes them inaccesible, and when I was in meetings and this happened participants said my video (using an iPhone connected to Camo Studio via USB) froze as well. However, Bluetooth peripherals still work. So while the screen seems frozen and the audio is gone, I'm able to to save work and try to reboot manually if I'm quick enough.

• When it occurs, the audio stutters heavily for a half second or so, then it's gone.

• Ranging from a few moments to a few minutes later, the kernel panic occurs, and the machine reboots.

This is bizarre! I love, love, love this interface, and it was rock-solid for the first week I had it. That said, I wonder if the ARC USB is the culprit even though I've had it working for about a week as well. I'll be sure to try unplugging it at some point as I try to narrow down the triggers, but right now I don't have a path to reliably reproduce the issue yet to even start narrowing down variables.

I'm hesitant to install the beta driver as it seems it has its own fair share of issues and this is my mixed-use production machine.

UPDATE 6/26: I continued experimenting with what was plugged in where, and fingers crossed the machine has been stable for a few days now. The combination that's working for me is having the UFX II plugged directly into the Mac Studio with an Apple USB-A to USB-C adapter, having my "fussiest" and most demanding peripherals plugged into the higher-power StarTech USB3 hub, and leaving a second, Plugable USB3 hub for the most lower-power, least-demanding accessories. I hope this is the magic bullet for this problem at least!

Hi all, just adding my own report on top. I've been running my UFX+ through a CalDigit Elements T4 hub with USB to my MacBook M1 Pro laptop with Monterey. About every ten times or so when powering off the UFX+ or when putting the computer to sleep, I'll get a screen freeze followed by a pink flash and a reboot, so a classic kernel panic.

The UFX+'s firmware version is v.69 and the driver is v.3.27, which are the latest ones on RME's website. I tried connecting the UFX+ directly into the laptop with a USB A to C adapter (3.0 obviously), but that didn't seem to help.

I don't really feel like paying 100+€ for an Apple thunderbolt 2 cable and an adaptor to thunderbolt 3 without knowing whether that'll help or not. Happy to share anything else I can if I'm missing something. Crash report below.

UPDATE: I think I've found a workaround. Simply quitting TotalMix and the FireFace USB settings panel before powering down the device seems to work. I haven't had any panics in over a week, so lets hope that this works until RME patches the problem (if they ever will.)

Nope, didn't help unfortunately. 12.5.1 and still getting this issue.

I have mostly been, yes! Knock on wood. I've had other problems and warnings from macOS that could be RME related but nothing as often as what had happened here.

So that's my advice that mirrors others': make sure you have the interface plugged in as directly as possible (which I previously had), and have high-quality powered USB hubs for hungry devices.
