Topic: new digiface HD 24 Alesis project

Hey Guys,

I'be just received my Digiface USB !
I was dreaming of building a kind of 24 IO soundcard by coupling it with my Alesis ADAT HD24 XR..
I tried this evening to connect both.. and proceed to a first test consisting to record an old 8 track project from the HD24 to my Daw (Reaper)

Wow..!! it doesn't work yet ;-(

First, I'm unable to see in a simple view the 32 ADAT tracks from the RME digiface ? what software sould I download ?
I've only poor vumeters looking to be configured as a kind of surround system !!
only one track from the HD24 is readed in Reaper...

please help !!
thanks in advance for sharing your christmas time with me !

kind regards

Stéphane

Re: new digiface HD 24 Alesis project

Hi Stephane

You only have to instal the right driver to your computer, Mac or windows PC ?
The driver includes Totalmix the monitoring software of this interface where you can see all incoming signals.
The incoming signals are provided to Reaper at the same time.
How did you connect to the Alesis ?
With one toslink cable or with two ?

If you conncted only one cable from the Alesis Out to the Digiface USB In then you have to open another program in your computer.
The Fireface settings dialog (wich is also part of the driver).
There you have to select adat optical as clock source.
Then you should receive 8 channels from the Alesis when you play them.
You have to play that project for recording it with Reaper.

A posting of your Audio device settings in Reaper would have been very helpful, this is just a good guess:

Ensure that you have the proper settings in Reaper Preferences (Audio->Device):
Correct RME ASIO Driver and .. most important
You have to enable inputs and define the first and the last input and output that you want to use in your project.
Ensure that you catch all inputs and outputs of your device.

good morning Guys !

Thanks to you both I made a big step today! So first, many thanks for your time and your help!!
Much  appreciated!

I plugged  two cables in and out for the first Adat 8 track group

This is now most running well except one big issue!
I don’t know how to dislink input 1 from input 2 and the 3 from the 4 ...
keep dreaming of true 24 mono channels and not kind of stereo coupled tracks/channels !!

thanks again beforehand

Re: new digiface HD 24 Alesis project

Click on the spanner and click mono. I would suggest a read through the TotalMix manual. It really does help.

Babyface Pro Fs, Behringer ADA8200, win 10/11 PCs, Cubase/Wavelab, Adam A7X monitors.

Perhaps watching these two videos that teach TotalMixFX will help.

TotalMix is a monitoring solution. For your application it should not matter if the TM inputs are grouped stereo or mono. I fear you are loooking an the wrong place. Mixing and routing should be done in Reaper (the DAW).
